I don't have RA but I have degenerative hip arthritis. For me, when I eat low carb, my pain is essentially gone. Carbs can cause inflammation in tissues. Low carb is the equivalent of naproxen for me. In fact, I find it more effective.

What do you mean by "a lot of meat"? How much meat are you eating? What are you eating other than meat?

Done correctly, Atkins does not cause rheumatoid arthritis.

So how much meat are you eating every day now? 5 oz? 10? 15? 20?

Okay. If, for whatever reason, you do not feel comfortable eating that amount of meat, you can simply cut down on it and replace it with other sources of protein. When you say "meat", do you include here poultry, fish and shellfish? There is no need to eat red meat if you choose not to. Other good sources of protein are cheese and eggs.

I normally eat 200-300 g of meat (beef, pork, fish, chicken, turkey) per day. That's 7-10 oz. This is for a caloric intake of approx. 1800 kcal and I'm on OWL Rung 6. If you move to OWL, you will have more choices for your protein.

Are around 65% of your calories coming from fat? Are you eating all your veggies?

Are you taking supplements and eating a variety of vegetables?
If you started at the end of September you should be on OWL and have added in other sources of nutrients and other protein than meat. If red meat bothers you have eggs and chicken, pork. What were your sources of protein before Atkins?

                    Re: rheumatoid arthritis and Atkins

RA is an autoimmune disease. Either you're going to get it or not. What you eat doesn't matter in regards to getting it or not getting it. I've had it since I was 13.

That being said, doing Atkins has helped my arthritis feel much better, not just the losing weight and exercising, but the stable blood sugar and good nutritious foods have helped tremendously. I eat 100-150g of protein a day (I try and eat more, but am usually not hungry) of mostly chicken and beef, with occasional fish and some cheese.

I lost only 9 pounds in 3 weeks. If I will ad any more carbs to my diet I will stop losing weight. I do not drink diet soda, stopped drinking carbonated water, no Atkins products. Vegetables(I do not like them), have some lettuce, or cucumber, some mushroom every day now.

What makes you think that? Some people actually lose weight better when they move to OWL and add more vegetables. Not providing your body with proper nutrition can slow down your weight loss.

It's difficult to do Atkins with only three vegetables. Did you try all the veggies from the Acceptable Foods List? Did you try different ways of cooking them?

If I go above 25 carbs I will not be losing any weight. I have been on Atkins 5 years ago, lost 20 pounds. But after that was not eating meat for almost 3 years. I never liked meat that much, so it was not a problem. Maybe this diet is not for me? But now, I do not have craving for sweets any more, I am so happy about it.

Yes, 25. If I had 30, I was starting to gain.
