  • My First Day, how did I do?

    Hi all,

I am back to the Atkins way for life!

I last did Atkins before my first child was born, I lost the weight I wanted and it had the desired effect of raising my fertility! (recommended by my DR!) I then gave up.

After my first child was born I did the low gi diet and lost all the weight and kept it off untill my next child I put on 5 st again! I then did weight watchers and lost it all and kept it off for 6 months.

Since then its been creeping back on and after giving up smoking on August 1st! I rapidly put on more untill now when I only have one pair of trousers and one skirt that fit! I feel rubbish and have decided to adopt the Atkins for life.

SO... Today I started (Ive read the book 3 times!) this is what Ive had..

    1. Breakfast - 3 scrambled eggs with butter. bottle of water.
    2. Snack - Baby Bel Cheeses x 3 bottle of water.
    3. Lunch - Bacon Slices x 4 uncured no carbs.
    4. Snack - Baby Bel Cheeses x 3
    5. Dinner - Roast Chicken fried peppers and mushrooms(2 cups) in olive oil and garlic. 1 cup Cauliflower with sprinkle of Cheddar. Bottle of Water.
Other than REALLY missing tea (which i couldnt drink without milk and I dont like cream) I feel ok, not hungry/deprived.

What HOT drink could I have, I will be keeping up the water and have hit my 3 ltres already today but id like to add some hot drinks too especially as I live in costal Uk and its freezing!!

    So did I do ok??
    Thanks guys

    Hello Dee,
Welcome to ADBB and back to Atkins. First, congratulations on quiting smoking, Good For You.
When you mention you've read "the book" 3 times. Which book are you referring to. Here at ADBB we follow DANDR 2002 (DR. Atkins New Diet Revolution). So when asking for help with Atkins here, we will be offering it by the Atkins 2002 version.
As I look at your menu I see alot of cheese. What do each of those babybell cheeses weigh? We are allowed 3-4 ounces of full Fat cheese, pge 125 DANDR.
We are also allowed 2 cups of salad veggies from the salad veggie list. Pge 125 DANDR and 1 cup of veggies from the other veggie list, Pge 126 DANDR. Or just 3 cups of salad veggies.
I see you got your veggies in which is GREAT. The only thing I would suggest there is if you can spread the veggies out throughout the day starting with breakfast. Rather than eating all of them at your evening meal.It helps keep a steady glucose level throughout the day. Very important.
Looks as though you're off to a great start.
As far as something hot to drink. I drink decaf herbal teas in the winter. So many to choose from. I like to put a cinnamon stick in it too. Gives it a great flavor and is healthy for you as well.
Great job on getting your water in.
Make sure to fit some sort of exercise into your day.
Wishing you much success in your Atkins journey.
    Sincerely, Sherri

Re: My First Day, how did I do?

Kudos to you for quitting smoking! You might want to download a little free program called SilkQuit Quit Meter and note your quit stats in it. Here are mine:

Six years, six months, three weeks, one day, 4 minutes and 23 seconds. 95920 cigarettes not smoked, saving $16,977.86. Life saved: 47 weeks, 4 days, 1 hour, 20 minutes.

Pretty cool, ha? If only we could do that for Atkins... hahaha

As to the menus, looks like Sherri covered that. Keep up the good work and welcome to the boards!

        Hi, you did great!

I noticed the same 2 things about your menu as Sherri did - watch your cheese intake & spread your veggies thru the day (with fat or protein) to keep your blood sugar stable. Congrats on starting Atkins & quitting smoking!

Re: My First Day, how did I do?

          Six of the babybel cheese would be your whole days allowance;
Table 2 - Babybel Cheese Calories and Nutrition per Serving (1 Serving=1 Mini Cheese/20g) Calories 60
          Protein 4.6
          Carbohydrate 0
          Fat 4.6
          Fibre 0

But it is a soft cheese which I do not think is allowed on induction.

Table 1 - Calorie and Nutrition Values for 100g of Babybel Cheese Calories 299
          Protein 23
          Carbohydrate 0.2
          Fat 23
          Fibre 0
          Alcohol 0

Maybe someone can clarify if it is allowed.

It's not that soft cheese isn't allowed on Induction ... it's that fresh cheese isn't.

After all, cream cheese is "soft".

            Mozzarella is relatively "soft".

I'm following the DANDR 2002 book, and thought babybel was fine but I may be wrong!

They are fine for Induction. Their only ingredients are milk, salt, bacterial culture, microbial enzymes and, for Cheddar, natural colorant.

                Choose the full fat ones.
