You can look these things up in the USDA database: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

1 cup white mushrooms, raw, slices or pieces = 70 g
    1 cup white mushrooms, raw, whole = 96 g

Or enter your foods in fitday.com to track them. Just enter them raw for best results (except bacon-better entered cooked)

You can fit a larger amount (weight) of whole mushrooms in a cup slices, because fitting whole mushrooms leaves less empty space in the cup; there would be more empty space between slices. Makes sense?

yeah i realise that but i thought there would b a set amount of grams per cup of mushrooms sliced or not. eg if im told that 1 cup of mushrooms = 2.4 carbs then if i can just change the way they fit in the measuring cup then that throws my carb count out ?70 grams of mushrooms are going to have less carbs then 96 grams obviously ,so even tho its not much difference my carb count is different all the atkins site says is half a cup =1.2 carbs i just wanted the weight this would equal , ok so anyway if i have 100grams of mushrooms i would have about 3 grams of carbs ? thanks again for responses

That's right. The carb count will be different. For mushrooms, not by much... the difference is 0.55 net carbs.

Of course, you could put these mushrooms in a blender to chop them really tiny, and then the amount would be different. Or if your slices are different than the USDA mushroom slices. Or if the mushrooms are not the same size, etc. I don't expect large differences though.

In any case, going by weight is more accurate. If you prefer to weigh your veggies, go ahead and count the carbs that way. As you saw, the amount that fits in a cup varies.

100 g of white mushrooms (raw) is 2.26 net carbs (3.36 g total carbohydrate minus 1 g dietary fiber).
