  • I don't get it....do you??

So, I started on Atkins for the first time this past August. I lost 12lbs, then the doo-doo hit the fan over here, so ate whatever I wanted for the next two weeks and gained 8lbs back. Then I started again for about a week, lost the 8lbs, but then ran out of money to buy the proper foods and gained 4lbs back.

I've been on a clean induction now for a week (and going strong) but I've only lost 2lbs, which I lost in the first two days, and since then the scale hasn't moved! What gives?? I'm in ketosis and I'm drinking 64+ oz of water per day.

    Typical menu:

    Breakfast
    3 Eggs
    1c Mushrooms

    Lunch
Some type of fresh meat (I don't eat any processed meats)
    1c Peppers, or cucumbers
2tbsp Caesar dressing (no sugar added)
    2tbsp Mayo (sometimes, and I use Helllman's)

    Dinner
    Meat
1c Mushrooms, peppers (if I didn't have it for lunch) or cucumber
    2tbsp Caesar dressing

    Late night snack:
1 serving of Linda's no bake cheesecake (4g net carbs) for something sweet.

I don't drink any coffee anymore since I'm drinking so much water now.

Could this be P.I.S.S? Or the cheesecake?? Man, it would be hard to give up that little bit of heaven every night!

Oh, and I don't work out. By the time I have time, everybody's sleeping, and we live in a tiny condo.

    Any ideas?

Starting, stopping, restarting, stopping, restarting... this can/will slow down your metabolism. Also, "now" is not "then". It's wiser not to compare your results now with your results a week, a month or a year ago.

    2tbsp Caesar dressing
What are the ingredients in this?

Or the cheesecake?? Man, it would be hard to give up that little bit of heaven every night!
Some people have trouble losing while consuming certain sweeteners. And keep in mind that Dr. Atkins wanted desserts to be occasional items on our menus. Eating cheesecake every day, whether high in carbs or not, is not going to change your eating habits.

Exercise is mandatory on Atkins. You don't need to exercise inside. Maybe you could go for a walk?

This is a waste of 4 carbs, in my opinion, on Induction. You don't really have the leeway for them ... since MOST of your net carbs should be coming from Induction vegetables.

Also, Induction is a time when you should be breaking your addiction to "sweet" ...

Do you want your "sweets" or do you want to get healthy and lose weight?

Georgiana, the ingredients for the Caesar dressing is:
          Canola oil
          water
          fresh garlic
          frozen yolk
          parmesan cheese
          concentrated lemon juice
          salt
          seasonings
          dijon mustard
          spices
          cured anchovies
          xanthan gum

I eat approx 2000 calories per day.

I'll back off of the cheesecake, but one serving only has 15ml of Splenda, which makes me wonder why three packages of splenda per day is okay, but not one teaspoon in the cheesecake?

            It's not that the Splenda isn't "ok" ... it's that you're spending 4 carbs on a sweet.

Induction is about getting past your addiction to sweets.

15 mL would be one tablespoon, not one teaspoon. But... are you using 15 mL of liquid Splenda?

Ooooh! Now I understand where you're coming from Atkinsgal. Good point. No more cheesecake.

Georgiana, thanks for pointing out the BIG mistake I made. I'm using the granulated Splenda for baking.

                  Re: I don't get it....do you??

I have always had a MAJOR sweet tooth. T hen hubby was diagnosed as a type 1 insulin dependant diabetic and my life changed. He started Atkins and then kind of "forced" me into on August 15th. After the first 3 days of complaining, moaning, and groaning, something changed in me. The sweet tooth went away and I started to feel much better.

Now I do have occasional cheesecake ( like 1 slice every 3 weeks) as a treat but that is about it. Your sweet tooth will go away. Just hang in there.
