  • fat? why so much?

    Why do we need so much?
    i only use a little butter to make my eggs
    then a little in more eggs that I make like a muffin
    then maybe some mayo

    Do I need to add more fats?

    This high fat thing concerns me too. But it's got to be better than what I was eating before because I was really a fast food junkie.

      You need fat to fuel ketosis.

      Fat helps with satiety.

      Fat stabilizes blood sugar.

      Fat gives your body the fatty acids it needs.

      Also, excess protein converts to glucose and can interfere with weight loss.

        i'm thinking that I haven't and if I need to add some then I better get crackin'

          Same question for you. Did you read DANDR 2002? Didn't it convince you that fat is healthy (except trans fats)?

            I don't know how much fat you are eating. Post a menu, with quantities and net carbs, and we can take a look.

            Also, how many calories are you eating?

              Yes, I have read it. Several times. And no, it didn't totally convince me that fat is healthy for my heart.

                Am snack – 2 hard boiled eggs
                Breakfast – 2 sunny side eggs with 3oz steak
                Snack – 2 celery stalks with parmesan/spinach dip
                Lunch – 1 can tuna w/1tbps mayo and a cut up string cheese w/1 cucumber
                Snack – 2 eggs w/1 tbsp cream cheese and tbsp butter + water blended and cooked like crepes
                Post workout – protein drink with 3 carbs
                Dinner – chicken with salad or cucumber w/ceasar dressing
                Sugar free jello

                  Please add the net carbs for every food. "Chicken with salad" doesn't tell much.

                    Let me rephrase. It did not convince me that HIGH fat is healthy for my heart. Of course, everyone needs fat in their diet.

                        The dip says 1 carb and I only use 1 serving
                        the cesear salad dressing is the same
                        the mayo i used says zero
                        cream cheese i think has 1 also
                        that's it.
                        I count my eggs as 1 for each
                        and then my veggies too.

                            I should have explained better. It would be useful if you could post your menu like this:

                            Snack – 2 hard boiled eggs (1.2 net carbs)
                            Breakfast – 2 sunny side eggs cooked in ??? (1.2 net carbs) with 3oz steak
                            Snack – 2 celery stalks (x net carbs) with parmesan/spinach dip (y net carbs)
                            ... ... ...


                            This way we can see if there is anything else that needs to be tweaked in your menu. Better than noticing on day 14 that something was wrong. Even easier, you could share the link to your public FitDay.

                            Just looking at it from the way you wrote it... there seems to be enough fat there. But it depends how you cook the food, what's in the dip, etc.

                            Mayo is made with eggs. Eggs have carbs. So mayo has carbs too. It's written zero just because the carbs are below 0.5 g per serving.

                            Well, if you eat 6 (?) large eggs per day, that is 3.6 net carbs. If you count each as 1, it makes 6. So that's a difference of 2.4 carbs... and those are carbs you could use for more nutritious (higher carb) vegetables.

                            Are over half of your net carbs coming from veggies?

                              It's not 0 though. It's 0.54 net carbs per Tbs. according to the USDA. The ingredients have carbs, so the final result can't be zero carbs.

                              Now ... as to being helpful as to why you need fat ... I can't really do better than what Dr. Atkins wrote.

                              If you don't understand why you need "high fat" in order for low carb to work, then there's probably nothing I can offer.

                              As to it being "heart healthy" ... same as above.
