  • should I be counting meats?

    meat like steak, chicken or ground turkey or salmon - should I be counting those as a carb? i know it says no carbs but I dont know if there is hidden carbs. No I am not adding anything to it.

    If the meat is not cured/processed and has nothing added to it (e.g. spices), it has no carbs. An exception are organ meats and (some) shellfish; that's why organ meats, mussels and oysters are limited to 4 oz per day.

    Did you check the USDA database? If there are carbs in something, that will tell you.


    And always read the ingredients. If some ingredient has carbs, then the food has carbs.

      I count everything that I consume meaning that I enter it all into FitDay. That way I can easily see if I'm getting enough fats, see what my protein is, make sure my carbs are in the range I want and also check on other nutrients to see if some supplement adjustment needs to be made.

      It also makes a great record that I can go back and review if I'm not losing much weight or if I'm doing well with the weight loss.
