I did great the first 2 1/2 weeks... no cheating, 20 carbs or less, lots of water, going to the gym... all was well... now i seem to constantly crave things im not allowed to eat. i ate a donut yesterday and 4 onion rings last night from a burger place where i get charbroiled chicken... i feel so discouraged lately... maybe it was the huge stall on the weight loss.. i lost 14 lbs the first 2 weeks then nothing ever since. i havent been able to fall asleep at night and seem to wake up b4 my alarm clock goes off... i dont know whats going on??? i eat right most of the day then at dinner crave something unhesalthy for this diet.. i really want to keep going and lose weight but just need some assistance from some1.

    Thanks,
    Steph

    Re: Feel like giving up...

I see from your sig that you have set yourself many goals. However i wish to reiterate that you should not be too obsessed with numbers. You do lose a few lbs during induction, but bear in mind that that is merely the initial phase to get your body into ketosis, and some (or most) of that is water weight. The real fat burning usually comes after induction. I would suggest that perhaps you might want to look into buying some ketosis strips to see if your body is still in ketosis, if not, then you might have to re-do induction.

It sounds like most of your problems are mental. You cheated because you lack faith in yourself and in the Atkins Diet. However, rest assured that it will definitely work. You need to give it more time, and measure yourself from time to time rather than obsessing over the scale. Also are you taking your vitamins and supplements? Try and relax when you go to bed at night, don't worry too much. After the induction phase you should feel more energized because your body is burning fat which is much more efficient than carbs. Also you don't necessarily have to kill yourself at the gym every day, some light aerobics is fine like the treadmill, or brisk walks in the park, etc.

Post a few menus, including quantities, net carbs for every food and total calories. Maybe there is something that can be tweaked there.

You know that won't help with the cravings, Steph. Every off-plan bite you take will only make it easier to take another one and more difficult to go back on the right track.

i feel so discouraged lately... maybe it was the huge stall on the weight loss..
A stall is 4 consecutive weeks without a loss of inches or weight. So did you honestly stall? Going for days and even weeks without weight loss is not unusual.

        Like what?

Also... did you read this sticky: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ot-linear.html ?

And you do realize that 14 lbs is 17.5% of the weight you needed to lose when you started, right? I'd say it's normal for your body to take a small break after such a weight loss. You need to be patient, because if Atkins is your new WoE, then there is no rush to lose X lbs.

          Re: Feel like giving up...

It was really hard for me at first too. I have mostly been eating low carb for over two years.I have went off gained back some weight and went back to it a few times. I always stay the same weight for a couple of weeks after induction, then the real fat burning starts up again. When you eat off plan, you'll add some water weight most likely. Muscle weighs more than fat, you can build muscle (which burns fat) and hold a little water and still be loosing fat and not have a weight change. But you'll still be shrinking. I cheated, I bloated and felt bad about myself until I just got fed up with it. Gradually I got into the habit of eating this way. Being a normal size isn't a goal you should give up on. A diet isn't torture you must endure until you get the weight off. Its simply how you eat. Hopefully you like real meat, real veggies and cheeses and things that are allowed on this diet. Would you rather eat tiny amounts high carb foods and count every calorie? Would you rather eat fake low fat foods? Did any of that actually work for you and your body? If not this way of eating, what will do to achieve your goals? I see so many people post that are new to this way of eating. I want to see more persist with it and get to their goal weights. You don't have to be perfect but you do have to be persistent. Where do you want to be in a year, two years, five years? Where will you end up if you give up on getting to your goals? Maybe you can't get back the years you spent being over weight, but you can make your future a better one. Don't give up because it takes a little longer than you wish it to. You have the rest of your life to think about!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

          1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
          2nd mini goal: 140!
          3rd mini goal:135!
          4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

I agree you should post a menu. If you are craving at night you may not be eating enough during the day or could have some hidden carbs in there making things more difficult for you than they need to be. You've lost 14 lbs...That is something to celebrate! I've only lost 3 1/2 lbs and I'm on my 13th day of Induction (it was the same for me last time on Atkins, only this time I will not abandon this WOE). I know you don't want to give up, gain the lbs back, and have to lose the same lbs over again. You are doing the right thing by coming to the boards...Lots of great advice here. I'm sure Georgiana can help with your menu. If you are eating the right things, at the right times, in the right amounts your cravings will subside, you will feel full, and you will enjoy how you are eating because your body will be happy. When our bodies are happy with the fuel they are getting they reward us by performing better, having more energy, and yes, returning to a healthy size. Good luck!

So why are you doing this?
You need to know why you are doing this. Write it up. Display it with your fat pictures. Tell yourself that it is worth it. You are worth it. Two slaps for that donut. Now and then move on to writing down why you are doing this.
