I only drink water except I have a small cup of coffee twice a day (coffee is subjective...a lot of people give it up completely, I just scaled way back). Beyond that, once in a very great while I will have a diet soda that is sweetened with splenda. I don't drink alcohol but do know that it is an option in OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss).

For squash, you may have spaghetti squash, summer squash and zucchini during induction.

I drink water and herbal fruity flavored tea with no added sweeteners.

If your belly must go, then the carbonation (gases) from any soda , diet or otherwise, must go too.

lol... Jane, I think this is the drink "squash", not the veggie "squash".

I don't drink this. I don't even know what the ingredients in it are.

have any of you had a "vodka and slimline or wine" ?
Alcohol is not allowed on Induction.

Since I am in OWL, I occasionally use alcohol in cooking.

Some people drink coffee. I don't.

Diet Coke is sweetened with aspartame, which Dr. Atkins tells us to avoid. Some people are stalled by it, some aren't. However, sweeteners are limited to 3 servings/packets per day (8 oz diet soda = 1 serving sweetener).

        I don't drink diet sodas.

I am guessing from the 'squash' question that you are from this side of the pond (in UK)?

Fruit squash in UK = fruit cordial (I think) in USA.

I think all the 'diet' or 'no sugar added' squashes I have seen over here have aspartame as the main sweetener, which Dr Atkins frowned on, so really would not be an ideal choice.

There are a few 'legal' diet pops around - not the major brands but Tesco and I think Sainsbury do ahve soem diet fizzy pops that would be OK for occasional use as well as your water. I buy Tesco's Fiery Diet Ginger Beer for my husband and sometimes have a small glass of it as it has sucralose/splenda as its sweetener and no other non-Atkins ingredients.

Remember that we are allowed up to 3 servings of any of the allowed sweeteners, and for a drink one serving = 8 fluid ounces, the equivalent of 2/3 of a can of fizzy drink.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: what do you all drink during induction? newbie starting out here ...

I drink primarily water, having said that I do have 1 x cup of Yerba Mate tea in the morning usually but not all the time...then I drink tons of water throughout the day and into the evening (as much as I possibly can) and then I finish the evening with a cup of Green Tea. I try not to have any tea unless I've gotten all my water in. I'm always cold so sometimes I'll have a cup of Yerba Mate tea or a cup of Green Tea in the middle of the day if I can't stand being cold anylonger....but if I do, I limit it to just one mug and then back to the water!

Water is so very important and I try to make it the only thing I drink. I don't drink any diet soft drinks or anything like that. Occasionally if we're out for dinner and I want something that resembles a treat, I'll order a sparkling water (just water with bubble) but I try even then to stick simply to water.

I drink tea and water when I am following the 14 day induction phase. I used to drink pop, but don't miss it at all now.

I drink water, a couple of glasses of iced tea or maybe a hot green tea up to my sweetener limit, plus I try to get in an 8 ounce glass of metumucil a day. It keeps me cleaned out and I actually enjoy the orange flavor, so it does the trick for me almost like an evening treat.

I presume this is sugar free?

It would also count as a sweetener.

I've been drinking water for over a year. No sodas of any kind for about 18 months. Occasionally I'll have a cup of decaf coffee in the morning and sometimes a cup of decaf tea (or something like chamomile) in the evening. Phased out juices years ago.

You should read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution or at least read the rules for induction - you'll find links here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tion-faqs.html#

Here is what the book says are "acceptable" beverages while on Atkins:
                            Acceptable Beverages
Be sure to drink a minimum of eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day (this is PURE WATER, including:

                            Filtered water
                            Mineral water
                            Spring water
                            Tap water

Additionally, you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
                            Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
                            Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine. Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases.

One of the keys to making this work is to break that desire for sweets. The only way to do that is to go cold turkey for awhile. So the squashes, colas and other things would be counter productive and only prolong your desire to eat sweet things. If you can do it, try to give up all sweet flavors for the 2 weeks. It will serve you well in the end and when you do have something less sweet later it will still fulfill your need for a sweet treat.
