how much water should i be drinking a day in pints or litres please, my leg cramps are starting again even though im now on owl ,im taking crampex tablets which seem to work but i dont want to keep taking them ,ive tried the supplements potasium calcium and magnesium and they seemed to work in the early days but not now and also the pharmacist said the supplements could also bring on cramps if i was having to much of them ,i explained i was eating low carb ,im just wondering if i should up my water intake im having about 5 pints water aday plus few cups of green tea ,also should i keep taking the supplements or not what do you think ,also its not exercise bringing the cramps on either as ive had a week off trianing down to illness and im still getting them ,if there is one thing that will make me quit it will be the cramps as they are very painfull and they make me limp the next day which makes training hard
    thanks

      Re: how much water

I don't really measure, but 6-8 regular sized glasses should be the norm. Maybe you should post what you've eaten recently, because some foods (i know some vegetables) can cause cramps if you eat them too much or too often. About the supplements, take them as directed on the label, don't OD now.

How many milligrams of magnesium are you taking per day? You may have to up the amount to get rid of the cramps...

            Leg Cramps & Supplements

Do you take a multi-vitamin (which you should) that also has magnesium in it? If so, add the two amounts together... you want at least 400 mg of magnesium per day.

Magnesium relaxes the muscles... you could also be low on salt...

                Re: how much water

Yes that would be OK, that is still within the recommended daily allowance of Calcium...

Keep in mind that the Crampex has 200 mg of calcium as well...

At your weight it should be 108 ounces not <80 (approx 2 litres). And your sodium should be high enough to help you with the electrolytes. And again, potassium and manganese can also play a part.

This site explains how, when and what type of magnesium works best:
                      Leg Cramps & Supplements
                      JILL

                      HW 298
                      HW (this time) 248
                      GOAL ONE 228
                      (take 2)
                      GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
                      GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
                      FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Are you taking any multivitamins besides the supplements mentioned above?

Are you taking any rest days in your exercise routine?

Is the diet making you feel good otherwise?

                            Re: how much water

2 litres isn't enough water for your body weight.

You should be getting around 110 ounces ... or 3.25 litres. More if you're working out.

Also ... taking too much over the counter potassium isn't a good idea ... as it can mess up your heart rhythms.

Try eating potassium rich foods instead ... such as an avocado.

Also ... why not give your body a rest while you get the eating straightened out ... you're changing too many things at once to know what's right or wrong.

And ... you don't "gotta go" to the gym at 6 unless you work there and it's your job.

                            You can take a break.

Have you posted exactly what you're eating so we can check that you're eating enough food?
