  • indian meal ... HELP !!

we are going out tonight for dinner with friends .. thinking of having
a tandoori mixed grill - which is lamb kebab, tandoori chicken and tandoorie lamb pieces with a salad and a yoghurt dressing .. GOOD OR BAD ??

Also there is a dish which is made of spinach and indian cheese - ok or not ??

You just started Atkins? I think I would personally avoid something as complicated as an Indian restaurant on induction. There are spices and sauces that could trip you up easily. Yogurt is not induction friendly for intance - and on induction you are to eat ONLY from the allowed list. The first 14 days of Atkins (induction) is an important phase and I would stick to it completely. Later on on OWL when I have started figure out more of what I can do and not do. What things that may trigger craving or make me gain weight I would experiement a bit with my favourite cusines. Indian food is my favourite. I love making curries at home.

One option would be to eat something at home, and stick to a salad for dinner. Can't you ask for another dressing? Oil and vinegar or oil and lemon are safe choices.

Do you know what's in the salad?

I assume you're in Britain since you are measuring your weight in stones Welcome!

Salads in most Indian restaurants here are often just a tiny bit of lettuce and cucumber served with the chutneys. However, it does mean they have salad ingredients in the kitchen so they might make you a bigger salad without dressing if you ask for it. Then take your own dressing.

Tandoori coating almost certainly has some kind of flour. If you have to go for it, ask for it without the yogurt dressing and try to scrape off the tandoori coating.

Obviously don't have rice, naan or poppadums - not even just a taste of the poppadums or you will be on a very slippery slope!!

But as Liv & Georgiana said, Indian food is not the easiest way to eat during induction so you might want to eat your real meal before you go so you are not hungry.

Edit: I had mentioned aubergine bhajee but thinking about it, that option (eggplant cooked in oil) probably has too many veggie carbs for induction.

A while back on induction I had tandouri chicken and was fine... maybe they made it differently? Mine didn't appear to have any flour and didn't spark indigestion nor cravings. I didn't take the yoghurt or other stuff, but the salad bar was nice and had American offerings such as ranch for dressing.

I never make mine with flour. If you are already committed to going, the kebabs and tandoor chicken are probably the best of your choices. I would skip the dressing on the salad. Palaak Paneer is a semi soft cheese, probably not induction friendly but OK for rung 2. No chutney, no naan. No onion baaji (sp) Rogan josh should be fine but ask if they thicken it with anything. The original recipes usually do not include a thickener.
