Induction 10/27/9! HELP!!

  • Induction 10/27/9! HELP!!

    I am starting induction in the morning and I am searching for CHEAP and QUICK ways to stay on this plan. Being a wife, mother of 2 toddlers, and working a full time job keeps me BUSY - and my budget is almost nonexistent for me to buy "special diet foods". The recipes that I have found online are not realistic for me. Can anyone give me ideas to help keep me on the bandwagon?? I am a preplanned - brown bag kinda girl..... Thanks for your help!

    You don't need "special" foods to do Atkins. The foods on the Induction list are your shopping list.

      Atkins can be done pretty cheaply. I think it is very economical compared to other WOE plans.

      Buy LOTS of eggs!!! I just bought 4 dozen and they are $.98/dozen around these parts. I eat 3-4 eggs every morning. (I love eggs!)(We had chickens but got rid of them! Boo Hoo!)

      For a snack I generally have 1-2 oz. of cheese. I can buy 1# of cheese for around $3.

      For lunch I always have a salad. I can buy a bag of iceburg lettuce for $.99 and that last for about 3 meals. Sometimes I pick up Spinach and that it more but it lasts longer. So it's a wash! dressing you can make for really cheap or buy for $1-2/bottle. It should last several weeks.
      As far as protein goes. Buy in bulk! I can get Leg quarters very inexpensively, as well as hamburger! Around $1/lb is very good! You can bake the leg quarters and heat them up for lunch.

      I like to eat cheese or some black olives for an afternoon snack or I will munch on pork rinds. I can get a whole bag of pork rinds for ($.99) So that is really cheap!

      For supper/dinner: I usually have another veggie. Broccoli/Cauliflower are my favorite! I can buy a bag of California medley for $.99/ bag. I pick out the carrot of course. It last's for two meals!. And I will have one of the following: Sardines w/mustard $.79/ 2 cans of tuna with mayo & mustard $.98/ or 4-5 eggs w/mayo for egg salad ($. 50)

      Breakfast: $.25

      Snack: $.20-$.40

      Lunch: Salad ($.33) Protein: ($.50-$.75)

      Snack: $.50

      Supper: $1.50

      Total=$3.28-$3.73/day

      Now I do use Linda's recipes and I love some of them but this is what I can do when I don't follow one of her recipes. I always eat a salad at lunch and eat veggies for supper. That's just what works best for me! By the way, my kiddos LOVE egg salad and Tuna salad. So I just make extra and give them that to eat! They gobble it right down!

          I buy in small quantity and make more trips to the grocery store to prevent waste in fresh veggies. I found that by not purchasing brownies, cakes, sugars for homemade icings, cookies, chips numerous other junk foods that I am not spending any more than I originally was on food. Just rearrange your budget-don't add to it.

          I started keeping fruits in the house instead of sweets for the kids and stopped purchasing sodas for everyone. That saved a ton there. I do allow the girls to make a pitcher of tea once or twice a week.

          Do check out Linda's low carb recipe site that J linked above. It's fabulous, lots of simple yet delicious recipes. Several that you can prepare ahead and plan for.

            I usually buy loads of protein if there is a good sale on and stuff my freezer. Finding a roast to make roast beef of is good. Does not have to be expensive meat. You can cook it pot roast style in the weekend to have easy access meat for the week.
            Cooking up hamburger patties on the weekend and freezing them is good. Or make Linda's white-castle pie. It freezes well. Then you have quick meals ready for yourself. I have found that real food can be really quick. Small crustless quiches freeze well and are very good breakfast options.

            Just have to figure out how to plan and how to cook them.
