I'm so sorry that you're under the weather. I am curious why you're having to stop Atkins due to illness? Please forgive the intrusive question. I thought Atkins is a healthy way to eat. Maybe you could move up a rung or something in order to include certain foods?

Depending on what type of illness it is maybe she needs bland foods that are gentle on the stomach? I know that if I had a stomach bug I would want toast and crackers, not meat and cheese to settle it!

Ok hon well I'm sorry... I was asking more for selfish reasons, wondering if I get sick do I have to quit my WOE. Trying to plan ahead I guess LOL

I really do hope you feel better soon. 3 weeks sick is terrible.

Here's a recipe for what makes me feel better when I'm sick. I figured I would just swap out the carrots and parsnips for low-carb vegetables:

              HI,
I had a terrible migraine headache about 3 weeks ago. I was near sick to my stomach, could not sit, stand, laydown, not even sleep because the pain was so bad. My son came over to see how he can help. My DH was out of town that day. I was seriously thinking of going to the ER. I had not eaten all day, only water and my meds. The only thing I could even think of eating was Campbell's Homestyle Chicken noodle soup. I always keep 2-3 cans on hand because if someone got sick, or had a cold or a "sick" stomach, it seems the soup was quick, easy, and always made the patient feel better.
There is no way I could eat a pork chop, or salad, or bacon, etc.

Even with a cold, you may not have an appetite or you just can't even try to eat anything besides a bland, plain and very quick food choice.

My huaband has been under the weather lately and not interested in eating 'real food' so I have been making lots of soups, which he finds he can get down easily.
I cooked a whole chicken in the slow cooker with more water than usual to get a nice amount of stock which I use to thin down purééd cooked meat and veg for him. With some extra cream and/or butter it makes a good 'atkins-legal' alternative to canned soups which might have 'no-no' ingredients.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                      Re: Sick of being sick

I feel your pain. I've had the flu for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I've been coughing up a storm for the last week, strangely enough it didn't start out with the cough! I know the cough syrup has sugar but try to stick to better whole foods otherwise. Nothing really tastes all that great during this anyway does it! LOL

                      Hope you are feeling better!!

                          Re: Sick of being sick

I just spend the better part of October being sick. I tried eating the things on the thread Georgiana sent but most of them wouldn't stay down or made me sick looking at them so after a few days of not eating anything I added broth, then a few other things.

It's easy to tell someone how to eat when you aren't the one who's sick....LOL -- I've never felt that lousy in my life and wanted nothing to do with anything or anyone.

Glad you are feeling better now -- I am too!! Let's get back up and get started loosing again!!

                            Re: Sick of being sick

Good ideas about eggs and custards, clear broth--but not the last part!

From the Illness Recipes: "The "potato substitute" veggies like cauliflower, turnips, celeriac/celery root, kohlrabi bulbs, radishes, can all be boiled and mashed. "

If you have had digestive issues, including nausea and diarrhea, these veggies are the very LAST ones to add back to your diet. They will not help you through food poisoning, but will irritate your intestinal tract even more.... and, if you are taking antibiotics, you might want to eat one of the light probiotic yogurts, like Activia. The light ones have a few grams of sugar, and can help your digestive tract get normal after an illness.

Clear soups, like chicken + broth, a small amount of veggies like celery and carrot boiled to oblivion...this will help you stay hydrated. Sometimes nausea--from medication or illness--respons best to dry saltines. Like, 2 of them, eaten 3 molecules at a time. When you are sick, especially if you have a fever or vomiting, you need to stay hydrated. You need to be able to keep food down. So if it takes a few crackers or a noodle in your broth, Do what makes you feel BETTER, until you can get back on plan.
                            Just MHO.
