I eat some apple almost every day. I like my green granny smith. I eat a 1/4 to a 1/2 apple at the time either with some nuts or some cheese.
I think a person on maintenance with a somewhat larger CLL who have tested it out could eat an apple if that did not mean cravings or gain. It is an individual thing. We can eat a lot of stuff on Atkins but we have to limit the portion. I have found this limiting the amount to be a very valuable lesson.

Is any natural/unprocessed food *truly* denied on Atkins...or does everything have a time and place, as we learn how our bodies react to various types of food?

There's no way to make a blanket statement like that for everyone.

        Everyone has different carb thresholds.

If you read the chapters on Maintenance in your DANDR, you'll see what Dr. A. says.

The only food I have consistently "denied" myself is real chocolate ... that's my "dragon" ... and no piece of chocolate is worth my desire to live a healthy life.

In the "Atkins for Life" kit, there's a fold out chart that breaks down the "Maintenance carb ladder" ... and the categories are "eat regularly", "eat in moderation" and "eat sparingly". They have turned out to be reasonable categories.

A big answer to your question would also be based on what foods are YOUR triggers ... what are your "danger" foods.

YOU might never be able to eat something that someone else could.

Chocolate is part of MY plan I eat in for all the nutrient value (not )
Yeah we can all eat variety on Atkins. It is not as limited as most people think.

Well... you CAN eat any way you want to eat. For some the rungs are not really a ladder but more like something we can read across rather than up or down. You find what works for your lifestyle and needs.

For me personally, when I tried nuts too soon I ate the whole can and gained weight. When I tried bread I had reflux and cravings and wound up dumping Atkins altogether... here I am all my weight lost regained and about ten pounds more than when I started Atkins the last time.

Another trigger food is anything even resembling a chip. Like the flaxmeal crackers? Induction friendly, right? Heck I'll sit there and eat the whole recipe. Ditto for anything chocolate.

That's just me. I promised myself this time I was going to "do Atkins", that is, I was going to read the book, follow the directions. It's working so far. I even had a dinner party Saturday night and made mashed potatoes and brownies at my husband's request... and didn't cheat. My weigh-in Sunday morning showed a 2 lb. loss. Tell me the last time I hosted a dinner party and LOST weight???
