that when you get off Atkins and you start eating regularly (not fast food binging or excessive junk eating) you gain the weight more.. or more quickly?

The idea with the Atkins Way of Eating is not to get to your goal weight and "go off" of Atkins.
The goal of Atkins is to change your way of eating for Life.
Just the way you look at it will help determine how well this way of life works for you.

i think this is true of any diet....b/c if u are on diet in the first place then your "normal" way of eating was packing on the pounds...so just like any other diet you need to make a fundemental change in the way you consume food. But if you reach ur goal weight by going on atkins and then have a small ice cream at a party once there is nothing that ur body did that is going to make u suddenly gain all your weight back. Just make sure that you eat sensablily and you should be finePICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you are supposed to "get off" Atkins. If you read the Life Maintenance chapters of DANDR and listen to Dr Atkins' tape, it does say that you can include most foods back into your diet, depending on your CCLL. The only food you should never be able to eat is sugar. Dr Atkins even specifies to not let yourself gain more than 5lbs and if you do, to go back to Induction to kick-start ketosis.
I believe Atkins helps you find your CCLL and it becomes a way of life rather than a diet you "get off"30yo F 5'5 (166cm)

There is an initial, very quick small weight gain related to your body replacing your glycogen stores. Remember that for every molecule of glycogen, it is stored with two molecules of water. So an initial 2-5 pound bounce is to be expected. That is also the reason many naysayers say that the initial quick weight loss is all water (regarding the first couple of days of induction). While partially true it overlooks many important facts, such as why that particular water is leaving in the first place.
So if you went off this plan you could expect a small bounce but then it should stabilize as long as you watch what you eat and maintain portion control. Which in my opinion when off this plan is almost impossible, at least for me.Jim

Ummm....Atkins IS regular.that when you get off Atkins and you start eating regularly
There is nothing REGULAR about eating sugar, white flour, starch and nutritionless processed pseudo-foods.
Atkins is about eating whole, fresh, unprocessed, nutrient-dense foods that your body needs to perform at its best.

I've been trying to think of a god analogy for this...
Let's say both your parents give you a weeky allowance. Let's assume that your Mom gives you twice as much as your Dad. Let's also assume that you don't spend all of your money and put whatever is left over in the bank. Every week your allowance grows.
Now assume that your Mom goes on a business trip and is unable to give you your allowance. Your bank account starts to shrink because your spending more than what your Dad alone gives you. When your Mom comes back, your bank account starts growing again.
If it's your Dad who goes on a vacation, your bank account will shrink too, but not as fast. When your Dad comes back, your bank account will start to grow again, but not as fast.
With Atkins, you cut out the foods that contribute the most to weight gain, which is why you lose weight faster compared to other diets. It's only natural that if you introduce the biggest contributor back into your diet, you'd gain the weight back faster.

ANY DIET that is started where eating habits are changed (for the better) and then changed again (old habits) WILL FAIL! This is why ATKINS is considered a WAY OF LIFE [b][/u]NOT A DIET[b][u].
THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF IS TO NOT ONLY CHANGE YOUR WOE, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR WOL!

Not that i would encourage this or anything, but i fell off the diet for like 3 months, ate everything and anything i wanted, actually i was a pig most of the time, it was gross....
When i finally got the courage up to weight myself again, i saw that i had only gained 1 pound back, thats how i knew that Atkins was the only diet for me...........
Started up again, and i have lost 11 more pounds.......
To really answer your question though, You need to find out how many carbs your body can handle without gaining or loosing weight..... you will learn this as you go on to OWL and Pre Maint. i have heard that for some people they can eat 50 carbs a day and still loose, some people can eat 80-100 and still maintain their weight, Its different for everyone, you will find your ideal carb rate once you move to the other phases..
