  • frozen packets of vegies

hi guys i have a question about frozen vegies on the packet in the nutrion label for eg it will say carbohydrate then below that it says total then it says sugars so total carbs = 2.5g then sugars=1.0g then below that it says dietry fibre 2.5g per 100grams of vegies . so do we add the carbs value with the sugars value then minus the dietry fibre value so in this case it would b 1 gram of carbs for 100 grams of this vegie ? is that right guys ? cheers muz

    Not quite. Ignore the sugars.

    Net carbs=Total Carbs-Dietary Fibre

Um ... in Australia, I think the fiber is not included in the carb count to begin with, so the OP would NOT subtract.

The "net carbs" would be the same as the total carbs ... 2.5.

OOPS - didn't think to check where you live Muzza - the rule I quoted above applies in Canada & the US. Things are labelled differently down under & in Europe.

My apologies for the bad info.

And Muzza ... you don't add the sugars to the total carbs ... they're already included in the total carbs.

That's how it works on a US label, anyway.

You could always check the vegetable against the USDA database (subtracting the fiber) ... and that should help you see what's going on.

That's right. In 100 g, those veggies have 2.5 net carbs, out of which 1 g is sugar. They also have 2.5 g dietary fiber. So 200 g will be 5 net carbs and 5 g dietary fiber.
