    Thanks for the ideas. I don't think I've ever seen the Tokyo turnips anywhere around here at all. There is a publix about 20 miles away that may have the kohlrabi. I did read somewhere, some time ago that Kohlrabi made a reasonable alternative to potatoes.

      I'm having regular turnips (purple over white) mashed. I grew up eating them prepared like mashed potatoes and actually prefer them to potatoes. Peel the skin off, cut into pieces (like you would a potato), boil in plain water. When the turnip is soft add butter, cream, salt & pepper and mash. The taste is a little stronger than a potato but I like it.
