  • I fell off!!!

Sat i weighed myself and I didn't lose anything in over a week. No excuse I know but then I pigged out Sat =(
    So now i'm 5lbs back!

I'm gonna try again on Wed.
    I'm so annoyed at myself.
I dont know - how do I know atkins is the right diet for me. I feel like I need fruit not so much bread but fruit and yogurt maybe ....

I was thinking just to do low calorie cuz I feel like even with atkins I have to really limit how much I eat ..... ughhh......

I only know what I did for me ... read the science and see if you think it makes sense; is the food you eat on maintenance a way of eating you can live with for life?

The main thing is that Atkins isn't just a way of eating until you lose the weight ... it's a principle of eating that you stay with.

If you can eat low calorie for the rest of your life, then ...

    >>I feel like I need fruit>>

I actually eat more fruit on Atkins than I did before.

YOU will get to eat fruit ... just not on Induction.

    >>I know but then I pigged out Sat =(

A good lesson that choices have consequences. True with any diet though!

    >> I'm gonna try again on Wed.>>

    What about Monday and Tuesday?

Since you have something like 8 lbs to lose, did you consider starting in OWL instead of doing Induction?

maybe I wasn't eating enough veggies either.
Today and tomorrow I already packed a low calorie meal plan. Thinking to forget atkins but decided to just try it.
Can I do a combination of induction and owl?
for me tho motivation comes in seeing stuff fast - that's my problem. i'm so no patient.

Today is Monday...are you waiting until Wednesday to weigh yourself again or resume Atkins? A good idea would be to pick up where you left off in Induction right now and wait a week to weigh yourself.

          I'm so annoyed at myself.
I dont know - how do I know atkins is the right diet for me. I feel like I need fruit not so much bread but fruit and yogurt maybe ....
You feel like you need fruit (sugar) because you haven't followed the Induction rules which break that addiction to sugar. Induction is only 14 days and then you can start adding foods in OWL such as yogurt (Dairy rung 2) and some berries/melons (Rung 4).

I was thinking just to do low calorie cuz I feel like even with atkins I have to really limit how much I eat ..... ughhh......
You have to limit what you eat for 14 days. That is only 2 weeks. Do a clean Induction and move to OWL and start adding foods back in. Low calorie will result in weight loss also if you don't mind being hungry all the time. You REALLY have to limit how much you eat then to stay at the low cal threshold.

Losing weight is about making choices which translates to limiting something. It's just the way it is.

How many were you actually eating? How many net carbs?

Can I do a combination of induction and owl?
What exactly do you understand by that?

Unless you learn to be patient, Atkins might be very difficult for you. It works, but it doesn't follow YOUR schedule for weight loss... and the results don't only measure in pounds on the scale.

i'm tired of dieting and failing though it's so annoying
Then stop dieting and choose a WoE you can follow for life.

GUESS WHAT? No diet is fast. It is going to take patience and work no matter which WOE you chooses. Might as well face that right now. And weight loss is not linear. It goes in waves. Nothing for a week or two then three or four at once. If you can't take the fits and starts on the scale then put it away. It will drive you crazy.

I probably was eating about 5-10 veggie net carbs? I was counting everything like even meats as having carbs just in case i mis calculated somewhere else.

For doing a combination meaning only adding foods from the other rungs on some days?

I started drinking coffee again too - black w/splenda. I really want to continue this for one reason - when I did and I worked out it gave me so much energy that I put in at least 50% more effort than I normally would.
can I continue this? i like to have 2 a day.

                  Why weren't you using FitDay?

                  Did you read DANDR?

In OWL, you do not necessarily eat "from the other rungs" every day. When you add a new food, you start by eating it every other day.

My opinion is that you are already a fairly thin person (in the big schme of things) and no matter what diet you chose, you are going to have to work it. Are you ready to do that?

Well, that was discussed on one of your other topics. The advice there hasn't changed, nor has Atkins changed.

                      >>I probably was eating about 5-10 veggie net carbs? >>

                      Not enough vegetables.

                      >>i'm tired of dieting>>

Then stop dieting. Atkins isn't a "diet" ... there's no "off" ... you're never "done" with Atkins.

You're changing the way you're eating ... and weight loss is a side effect.

I feel that you are being pretty hard on your self about this. These type things happen to a lot of people and all you can do is keep trying. I had a week where I didn't lose anything, but the way I looked at it was at least I didn't gain anything either. And the next week I lost 4 lbs. so that's not so bad. The week I didn't lose anything, I did make a change so check your changes and just be careful about them. The change I made was for the better, but it was still a change. Don't be so hard on yourself and just keep trying. If you don't give up, it will happen for you. Good luck!

Have you gained any insight about why you fail? Many people fall into a pattern of starting a new behavior, not seeing immediate results or results not in line with their unrealistic expectations, then becoming discouraged and returning to prior behavior patterns. You've probably tried diets based upon low-cal, low-fat, shake supplemented and pre-planned/prepared meals before. But those were diets, meaning, temporary changes in behavior.

Calling the Atkins WOE/WOL a "diet" is like saying a Death by Chocolate cake is "kinda tasty". Dr. Atkins developed a plan for people to attain optimal health - a balance of nutritious eating, proper hydration and exercise. Since many people with weight issues have those issues because they don't provide their bodies with the best fuel, Dr. Atkins devoted a good chunk of DANDR to explaining the intricacies of how our bodies use food to fuel itself. He then explained how each of us can build a nutritious and *sustainable* way of eating that will not only allow us to lose unwanted pounds, but attain optimal health.

If the point is to be "skinny", then an anorexic runway model's diet of a leaf of iceberg lettuce and an apple a day will certainly melt off the pounds. Sure, you'd risk having a heart attack in the process, but you'd certainly rock your burial outfit! If the point is to be healthy, then give Dr. Atkins and DANDR 2002 a fair chance.

                            Re: I fell off!!!

i have a sugar problem for sure! When I eat a sweet I want more!!! and I can't stop.

I want it to be a way of life I really do.

I'm not trying to be runway skinny. I want to be fit and see the results of exercising 6 days a week. I've had two children and so I work hard at it but can't get my way of eating into check.

I really feel like after every meal I need something sweet. I dont know that that feeling will go away?

Can i still drink coffee? 2 cups? black with splenda.

I am going to keep trying and I need to step away from the scale for sure. that will be tough though. I think Fridays are good days. is a week each time good?

Can I really eat meats liberally so that if I am feeling like I need to eat instead of reaching for something bad I can reach for a steak or hamburger patty or something?

If you don't fuel your sugar addiction, then yes.

Can i still drink coffee? 2 cups? black with splenda.
Not with Splenda, I'd say. If you have a sugar addiction, Splenda won't help. Give up all "sweets", at least for a while.

is a week each time good?
Some people weigh weekly. Others prefer to weigh daily. If you prefer to weigh weekly... do it that way.

Can I really eat meats liberally
You can eat enough to satisfy your hunger.

so that if I am feeling like I need to eat instead of reaching for something bad I can reach for a steak or hamburger patty or something?
You should eat if you are hungry or if you haven't eaten for 6 hours. Some people like not waiting for 6 hours to pass before they have another meal/snack, even though they are not hungry.

If you want to eat something just for the fun of eating... then that's a bad habit you need to change. Of course, reaching for an Atkins-friendly meal/snack is better than eating a slice of cake, but it's a bad habit nonetheless.
