  • A major scare...

    Hi all,

Before I started this WOE, I was an out-of-control Type II diabetic. unmedicated numbers were in the high 200s, low 300s and A1C was nearly 10.

So within a week of doing this new life change, my numbers dropped to a range of 80-110 without meds.

So imagine my absolute terror yesterday when I tested my fasting number and came up with...

    47.

    Shouldn't I have been dead?

I felt fine. No shakes, no dizziness, etc. and ate a steak immediately. After dinner it was 90 and this morning it was 100.

So what went wrong? (slaps head)

I didn't calibrate the new test strip coding to my meter.

What an idiot. All is well now, though.

My rings are spinning on my fingers. I'm annoyed, yet thrilled.

Glad you figured it out! I have 3 different types of meters, and two do not require calibration. I forget to calibrate the other one once when I opened a new box of strips and got a 500 reading.

At 47 you would definitely have been shaking and sweating and feeling the butterflies. Glad you weren't low. Really glad you didn't panic and eat lots of sugar.

OMG, you can't imagine the things that were racing through my head...sure, there was the panic that I was dying, but in a very weird turn, I was MORE worried that my doctor would take me off Atkins and stick me on some portion-controlled, low-cal crap diet and I'd gain all the weight back.

I guess that means I'm fully engrossed in this WOE!

I am glad you didn't worry about it too long before finding what had caused the low reading

Don't leave it too long to get your rings resized
I thought I had lost one of my treasures a few years back when I noticed I was not wearing it while out shopping. I was sooo relieved to return home after being out a couple of hours to see it still on the ground!! What a lucky escape - so I got it resized the very next day. Nearly lost over a thousand pounds in one day - not an Atkins-loss to be wished for
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
