  • non-Atkins FIL keeps eating our Atkins food!

I've noticed my FIL helping himself lately to the atkins-friendly food that I work hard to make for me and my MIL- who are both on Atkins! I don't mind cooking for the whole family, but (and yeah I am selfish) I think the atkins foods should be off-limits to those not on the diet. Anyone else have this situation happening? I don't want to have to start hiding our foods.

Sorry about the vent, it just really gets on my nerves...

Hide it in opaque bowls with lids and label it something he won't like.

Maybe you should encourage him to eat more and more of your food so that everyone is eating healthy!

Maybe you should make a little extra for him. It wouldn't hurt if he ate a little healthier too. I make my dishes at home and my DH and DD love it. They just eat it with the bread or totillas and I just stay away from it. I buy me a case of water... and also notice they have been finishing up faster, my DH takes a bottle of water with him for lunch everyday... before he never use to drink plain water ever.. only when he had to take a pill and that was just a gulp. Now I buy me 2 cases at a time.

You could stop cooking other foods for the family so that you'd only have one "menu" to cook and everyone would be healthier!

I vote for that! Far cheaper and easier than juggling multiple menus!

Question: what types of food are we talking about, anyway? The basic Induction/OWL 1 foods (meat, fish, poultry, eggs, veggies, etc.), or the low-carb products (FrankenFoods) that some brave souls include in their WOE?

If the former, by all means, buy/make more and promote healthy habits - be an agent of positive change and give yourself a pat on the back!

If the latter...that stuff is too expensive for non-low-carbers to nosh with their carby appetites. On the other hand, this may be a great moment for on soul-searching; do you *really* need those items and are they *really* beneficial for you to consume?

I am a little confused. Do you all live in the same house and cook and eat in the same kitchen, or is this when your in-laws visit?

I could see that being annoying, esp if it messes up your PLAN! Most of my "atkins food" is casseroles/recipes that are designated for "Tuesday lunch" or whatever on my master plan.

I don't have the "theft" problem as Hubby & I are both on Atkins, and the plan is posted on the Fridge I also label containers "Tuesday Lunch - Julie", "Wed Dinner - Brad" (his portions are larger than mine)...No one would eat something labeled that way on the wrong day, would they? I know Hubby doesn't dare

Was thinking yeah... my DH. If I buy presliced meats (such as the Boar's Head brand roast beef, turkey, ham...) it's gone within 24 hours it seems, and NO I don't eat like that.

I decided I'm gonna put it in the veggie drawer. He puts his beer on the bottom shelf of the fridge, and that's about as low as he ever goes ROFL

On a similar note, I had a non-Atkins person in my household (total junk food eater) earlier this summer who was dipping into the ketostix with some regularity - no understanding at all of what it really meant or how eating related to it, just thought it would show fat burning if one hadn't eaten too much candy that day and had maybe done some extra walking. Geesh - at ten bucks a bottle, I took those out of the main guest bathroom pretty quickly. Anyone eating cereal and fries and Lil' Debbies on a daily basis don't need to be wasting my ketostix just out of curiosity, LOL!

What kind of food is your FIL eating? Can you make a little more to share?

I had a similar experience when I moved to OWL and started cutting up cucumber and celery for snacks. My family always wanted some . Now I just buy much more and cut it up and leave it out for us all to graze on all day.
