  • I have cheekbones again!

    Woohoo!!

I look at myself in the mirror and even IIIii can see the weightloss, which is kind of unusual for me because I am seriously my own worst critic, so why is it no one else can?

I joined Curves last month and lost 12.5 inches overall, (17.75 since August!) and an additional 6 pounds (25 since August). My clothes are all falling off of me and I've had to buy new...I've been in Onderland for the first time in atleast 10 years, yet NO one outside of my husband has noticed. That kinda stings, lol. Especially when it's my Dad who I see once every other week or so, who is always talking about "how fat" this person is or "how skinny" that one is. And I know I've been the subject of his gossip to other people in that regard.

I haven't told anyone (including him) that I'm doing this. I figured the results would speak for themselves, but they're not, apparently!

Has anyone else had to deal with this? People are always so quick to call someone fat or talk smack about their weight behind their back. It's so annoying when you are the one who's fat and working your butt off (literally, lol) and no one can acknowlege it! Grrr!

Anyway, I'm proud of myself. I have to give alot of credit to Curves because things had really stalled for me before then, which was my deciding factor for joining, lol. Does anyone else here go there?

Cheekbones are awesome! I've discovered several new bones

It took a long time for people to notice my losses, and now I'm SURE that some people who have noticed just don't say anything because the are uncomfortable to say 'you look great' out of fear of it being interpreted as 'you looked awful before'. I'm 6 months+ and 75lbs+ into my journey and some people still haven't said anything.

It is nice that your husband sees it! Some hubbys don't! Remember that you are doing this for yourself...and that you are worth it! We're all proud of you.

Thanks, Julie. You're probably right too, about why others don't say anything. Especially in this day and age of how prevalent cancer is and people losing weight because of sickness-they probably would rather not mention it than find out it might be because I'm sick or something!

I'll give it another 10 pounds, and if people don't want to ask about it I'll put before and after pictures on a shirt.. LOL

        Hi Dani:

It took a while after I started seeing a difference for my friends to comment. When one of them told me I looked slimmer, I asked her when did she start noticing. She said that she had noticed roughly a month or so before, but did not want the pressure of others knowing that I was 'dieting' to cause me to feel self conscious.

You are doing great, and I wish you the best in achieving your goals. Congratulations on all you have accomplised so far.

Sounds like you have wonderful friends! That's a very understanding attitude

It can really 'throw' me to have comments. There's the self consciousness, the "did I look so bad before" thing that somebody else mentioned, plus realising that if they notice I've got slimmer, they probably also noticed when I was getting fatter ... and probably the worst for me is the feeling that I now have something to live up to. I like it when people notice that I have lost weight ... but in the past it has sent me into binge mode every time. So this time I will be waiting and prepared for binge-avoidance

Its rather amusing to me, I only get 'comments' when I am talking about Atkins. Then people will say the obligatory 'yeah, you're looking great'. I'm waiting for the un-provoked comment. But...I know I look better, I know I feel better, so I'm happy!

              Re: I have cheekbones again!

Well I know my sister will notice when she sees me again because she just sent me the ugliest fat pic of me, lol...I know she isn't looking at it like that, because really, that's obviously how I looked, so I'm hoping I get to see her this Christmas just to see the look on her face, lol. I had said in another thread that my plan was to make her think we weren't coming for Christmas, then actually go and try to sneak up beside her in the grocery store or something and see how long it takes her to realize it's me, lol..

I think I just want somekind of recognition from my Dad because he's the one always talking about everyone else's weight. I dunno.

Thanks for the comments, y'all. I really appreciate everyone's opinions here.

It took people forever to notice my weight loss... then all of a sudden everyone started commenting on it.
Be patient... it'll happen. People go around wearing blinkers!

                  Re: I have cheekbones again!

I find that I have to lose more than a little for people to notice. Today I wore a dress that I purchased too small with hopes of wearing soon and never lost enough weight until now to get into it. Not one comment, other than my husbands.

I like it that way though, because NO ONE knows either of us are DOING anything about our weight and that really does alleviate from the pressure of people asking every time I see them.

With the next 10 pounds the comments will have to come.....

Hang in there, you'll get the recognition from your daddy.

                  Hugs

                          Re: I have cheekbones again!

Like others have said, you know and feel it, so that's what's most important. Also as Rosie said, we all respond differently to that new attention. I have a tendancy to sabotage myself if I get a few comments telling me that I'm looking good (I'm sure a therapist could have a field day with this...lol). So sometimes it's not so bad not getting too much attention for the new and improving you. Just thought I'd throw out another side to think about...Good luck to you and your hubby on your journey.

Yeah, the therapist could have fun with my issues of apparently always needing someone else's approval, lol....
