  • In Ketosis, not losing

Heya! I have been on this WOE for over a month now. The first weeks were not cheat free, so I am still on Induction. I have been going strong recently for about 2 weeks. I have lost a total of 10 lbs, but this loss is from the first 3 weeks. I feel like the loss is slow going. I believe I am in Ketosis, my mouth always tastes sweet. I drink slightly less than a gallon of water per day. My only remaining indulgence is my morning coffee with cream and 1 splenda. Could I be in Ketosis, but not losing? How often do these "whooshes" happen? If I am keeping things at about 20g of carbs but not losing, will I ever be able to move on to OWL?
My fitday journal is here: http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJournals.html?Owner=sbsherz80. Scrutiny is requested! I predict that veggies will come up and I do measure and I get my cups of veggies in... Should I just wait or can I change something? Am I eating too many veggies? Thanks in advance!!!

Check out threads for Post Induction Stall Syndrome. Its real and you may have to wait 3-4 weeks for the whoosh, but it will come if you don't let the wait convince you to leave plan. It is very much a waiting game. Also moving to OWL gets many people going again. Something about the extra veggies. Don't make the mistake of thinking that you lose faster by staying on Induction. That is simply not true. You lose quickly in Induction because the first two weeks you lose a lot of water too. The weight loss rates of fat tissue from Induction to OWL are similar. Lots of folks stay on Induction thinking it is a fast track- but the fact is many end up bailing because they lack the variety OWL can bring them.

It's normal to have weeks with no weight loss. I've gone for months without losing weight.

      Did you take body measurements?

Could I be in Ketosis, but not losing?
      Yes, that's certainly possible.

What are the ingredients in that ranch mix you're using?

There is also a lot of diary in your menu. Some people have problems with it. You typically have 4 oz of cheese, 2-3 tbsp of cream and 1 oz of sour cream. That's 6 or more oz of diary. And you also have days with up to 7 oz of cream. That is way too much! Cream (above 2-3 tbsp) and sour cream are among the "special" foods, which are foods that can slow down weight loss for some people.

And at least for the menus for which I did the math, most of your net carbs were not coming from vegetables... but from things like cheese, cream, eggs, mixes, etc.

        Slower is better.

Having expectations of how you "should" lose will most likely lead to disappointment ... your body will lose at it's own rate.

As Georgiana said, you are eating too much of restricted foods.

What foods can be eaten on Induction?
          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...on Induction?)

Moving to OWL Rung 1 and adding 5 additional net carbs of vegetables helps so many people who aren't loosing....but probably eating too much sour cream and cream is what is causing you to not loose.

You hang in there!! You stick to plan, pay the price and then the plan pays you back. That's just how it works! And it DOES work!! Do remind yourself your body is in transition. It's trying to figure out what you're doing to it! You completely changed the way you fuel your body and it's adjusting. Have you taken measurements with a tape measure? Many times (MANY) I have lost inches first and then several pounds sometimes weeks later. Your body will drop the pounds at its own pace. If you stay on plan, your body will work the plan. Your job? To be patient and sometimes that takes everything you've got, but it's worth it!! I promise!

Stick with it and it will work out. Adjust your diet slightly as needed and keep going.

I recently reviewed 12 weeks worth of results. 7 of those 12 weeks I lost weight... 3 weeks I stayed the same... 2 weeks I gained. I never went off plan during any of that 12 weeks.

Only losing pounds in slightly more than half the weeks may seem like things are not working - but things are working just fine. My body just doesn't read a calendar on a weekly basis like I do and doesn't know it is "scheduled" to lose at those intervals.

I still lost about 30 pounds during that time period, even though it was all during the 7 weeks I did lose (plus the few pounds I was up a couple times).

Wait it out and keep on trucking, it will come.

                Re: In Ketosis, not losing

                Thanks for the encouragement!
Georgiana, thanks for noting the dairy. I will reduce my cheese to the minimum and go back to vinegar for my salads. The ranch did not have sugar or starch in the ingredients, but I will cut it out just to be sure. I used up my cream yesterday and I will not buy more, because it is too temping to whip it up! This will make room for more veg.
                I have not measured.
Yesterday I took a class at my gym, and in the 4 walled-mirrors I could see myself next to 10 19 year old size zeros and it was quite a depressing contrast. Why is it that my mirror at home shows results, but no others?!
I wil stick to it and wait it out. I know this works if it is done right, which is why I wanted to make sure I was doing it right! THanks again all of you!

I would suggest not using just vinegar as a salad dressing or you might be going too low in fat. Fats/oils are good Maybe use an oil with the vinegar to make a french-style dressing.
The ranch dressing sounds OK to me as long as you don't drench your food in it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                    Re: In Ketosis, not losing

Thank you Elizellen. I was backing away from the vinegar because I have just finished the yeast chapter in the book. I wanted to phase out mushrooms, vinegar and cheese soon anyway to see if these foods might be contributing to some allergic symptoms I have. I am going to wait on that though, because I just purchased some nice cheeses and they are not cheap! Till then, I think that I will add the oil to my vinegar, and also use some of the sour cream/ranch dressing but more occasionally. I am so thankful for this site! Thanks everyone!

Because you were comparing yourself to ten 19-year-old size zeros. The results don't go away just because you have skinnier people standing next to you.
