  • Splenda or Walmart brand

    Hey there-

I was at Walmart and saw their own brand of "Splenda". It is less expensive than Splenda. I was considering buying it. But first I compared it to the ingredients to what I have in the (Splenda) packets at home.

    Walmart Brand (Granular): Maltodextrin, Sucralose
    Splenda Packets: Dextrose, Maltodextrin, Sucralose

Was curious why the ingredients are different, or is it because one is granular and the other is packets? I should have compared the granular to the Splenda granular while I was at the store, but instead I just wrote down the ingredients thinking I would research it later.

    Thanks!

I have both and while they each have a different "look" I don't taste a difference. I would recommend, however, using liquid sweetener. It tastes better and has no carbs... splenda does have a slight carb count because of the fillers used to make it a powder.

Granular Splenda does not have dextrose ... only the packets do.

You can't really compare granular to the packets ... they're different products ... because of the bulking (maltodextrin) in the granular ... so that it measures like sugar.

I would guess that the Walmart brand and the name brand are the same ingredients if you're comparing packet to packet and granular to granular.

        Thanks-

I have been using the Splenda packets for oopsie rolls. I was going to but more granular for baking a Thanksgiving Atkins friendly cheesecake. Just wanted to make sure the Walmart brand was ok.

Why is there dextrose in the packets but not the granular I wonder?

          >> Why is there dextrose in the packets but not the granular I wonder?>>

They don't need maltodextrin as a bulk filler in the packets.

Dextrose also helps things remain free flowing, which is why it's in salt.

The packets are relative to a smaller amount of sugar, so you need less ... but it still has to have "something" in the packet. The amount of sucralose is quite small ... there probably wouldn't be much to pour out!

It's also a good idea to use the kind of Splenda a recipe calls for ... and a cheesecake would probably need the granular ... for the bulk.
