Hi all!! I started atkins last Wednesday nov. 11th. I have been on atkins before. I am 5'3 153 lbs. I have been doing everything right!! I have gained 5 lbs!!! Is this normal? My ketostix say I have a trace. I don't understand why I'm gaining. I drink 64 ounces of water a day and then some. (for women) I'm getting ready to start my period....could this be a factor??

Tom (time of the month) will do that to a lot of ladies (me included). I just keep on plan and refuse to weigh myself until it is over because I know I gain weight and I know how that makes me feel when I see it.
Outside of that, you can post your menus and we can look at it and see if there is any tweeking that might help.
Don't be discouraged. Hang in there!

Thx Jane!! Here is what I have been eating.....
Breakfast: choice of, bacon sausage with cheese 2 eggs and a slice of tomato.
Lunch: hamburger with onion tomatoe 2 slices of pickle a squirt of mayo and Colby cheese......veggies are broccoli... Cauliflower... Or asparagus.
Dinner: chicken with cheese slice of onion 2 teaspoons of sour cream....veggies same as lunch.
snacks in between range from pork rinds to fresh veggies with 2 tablespoons of T. Marzettis ranch veggie dip, or cheese slices with pepperoni.
64 oz of water a day
coffee sometimes in the morning....(it keeps me regular if you know what I mean!! Haha!)
please let me know if I am screwing my diet up with any of these foods!! Thx again!!

Can you add all your food today in fitday
Find out how much protein and food and carb you are eating and what the percentages are. I cannot really tell from what you are saying because you list no quantieis.
Do you take any medication
Have you had your thyroid checked
Do you drink anything else? Eat anything else (however small)
Do you take vitamins?
do you exercise
Have you tried measurements. Sometimes we lose inches and not pounds.

Maybe the sausage has cereal or rusk in it? Check the bacon for nitrates?

Are you weighing the onion & tomato. Colby cheese? (sorry I'm a brit, dont know this) Also the veg is it weighed

(again Marzettis, i dont know, is this ok?) I avoid pepperoni as some have sugars & baddies in them

It's so frustrating isnt it when you have sacrafised all those yummy things & got nowhere...but look at the long term & try again.
Reading the book also got me motivated once I understood the whole concept. Good luck keep us posted! x

last month I gained seven pounds during my TOM so yes gaining weight or water weight during that time is normal, usually when it disappears so does the weight.
