  • Plateau the size of Texas

I have been on Atkins faithfully since July. I started at a tight size 16. I am now a 10. This makes me happy. However, I have been a size 10 now for almost 2 months. Not only am I stuck at this size but its not my whole body that is stuck. A size 10 dress pants are snug in the waist but very loose in the legs. I still have a double chin and this hunk of back fat under my bra that just won't quit. I believe, yes, I am beginning to gross myself out...haha! Anyway, how did anybody else who hit a plateau get over it? Any advice?

just keep going. I have the problem with my pants too - very loose in the legs, but still snug around the hips [or belly roll]...patience!

Look at this way, you have maintained your weightloss! Okay, not the goal but still. I've been in the same weight range and size for awhile now too. Also 10's hmmm. Okay I ate off plan some and just maintained. Eventually it will come off. About it coming off uneven, I haven't found a cure for that yet. My butt has shrunk up but not my belly? I think it's just my age this time. For me its partly in my head, I end up eating more when I am on plan and doing well and kinda sabotaging myself. Other times I've stalled, I just waited it out and maybe used fitday to study what I was eating and tweak the diet a little. Enjoy your size 10's! When I get out of this size, I won't be able to wear anything I own again.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

      1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
      2nd mini goal: 140!
      3rd mini goal:135!
      4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Same here with the uneven weightloss and its my belly that holding on for dear life. I have two pairs of jeans I didn't used to be able to get over my hips/butt, well they fit fine their now, but I still can't button them at the waist. It will come in time, some places are just more stubborn, good luck!
        1st Goal ~ 199 Onderland -Met 3/29/10
        2nd Goal ~ 174 No longer obese
3rd Goal ~ 150 In the home stretch
Final Goal ~ 145 or below (I'll know when I get there) No longer overweight

          >>how did anybody else who hit a plateau get over it?>>

Well ... what anybody else did probably won't work for you!

Have you read the chapter in DANDR that deals with plateaus?

My only advice is to move to OWL ... staying on Induction too long is generally counter-productive ... and that might be the problem right there!

It seems to be a sad fact of life that when we lose weight, more often than not, we lose where we least want to first, and those areas we desperately would like to slim down, are the most stubborn. Hang in there. Eventually, those rough spots will concede defeat.

I agree with J... make the move to OWL. Lots have jump started losses again by starting up the rungs and remember, we still get to lose on OWL. Actually, many lose even faster, particularly on the first rungs.

Re: Plateau the size of Texas

I'm right with you...coming to the end of induction and I have stopped DEAD after 7 lbs of quick weight loss. It's frustrating and sometimes I want to throw my scale through a window, but this thought keeps me going: the fact that I have been able to lose an ounce after years of futility tells me that the Atkins WOE DOES work and it is the only thing that will work for my body chemistry. Eventually, the weight will come off...it has to.

Are you exercising, especially weight training?

I am really TRYING to exercise. I am not super dedicated to it though. I walk my dog twice a day, but I have always done that, even at my heaviest, so I dont necessarily consider that adequate exercise.

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions, I am going to consider moving to OWL but I do have a huge party to attend in two weeks and I am scared of stalling out even more. Ack...what to do!
