Instead of thinking what you CAN'T eat, you should figure out what you CAN eat.

Don't just go thinking, "oh well, I'll see what I eat once I'm there." This usually leads to failure. Better have a strategy ready.

I was born in, raised in, and have never lived anywhere other than Louisiana (I'm about an hour from New Orleans)... and you're right, there's some mighty fine eating around here.

One thing that is hugely popular in most restaurants - seafood platters. Most places that offer fried seafood platters will also offer broiled ones. And yep, you can get just about any fish or shrimp grilled or blackened. One of my favorite things: chargrilled Mahi Mahi topped with lump crabmeat and hollandaise. Awesome!

Yeah, I'm in B.R. too and have never had a problem at restaurants. Just check the menu online beforehand (if possible), so you know what to expect. Have fun!

The best thing I had there was a bag of spicy boiled rock lobsters. My uncle brought it home years ago. He had no furniture so we sat on the floor and devoured them! They can bake and broil and boil so you can eat your way threw it in an Atkins friendly way. Enjoy your trip!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                2nd mini goal: 140!
                3rd mini goal:135!
                4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

                  Re: vacation in new orleans

Ohhhhh.... New Orleans... top of my wish list of places to visit! And all this talk of seafood just makes it sound more wonderful!

Georgiana is right... focus on what you can eat. There are always so many delicious things... in unexpected places. I always say the same to Atkineers coming to Italy, where everyone assumes it's all pasta and pizza... not so!!!

If you put your mind to it, you'll be fine. Think about how wonderful you'll feel when you return from your holiday without having caved, vs. how horrid you'd feel just a few seconds after giving way to temptation, if you were to.

                  You can do it!
