  • Mixing diet pills with atkins diet...

Salutes to my Atkineers!!! Well, I have been doing great. I guess my co-workers are starting to notice. I am starting to notice my shirts are getting looser and some of my shirts have the stretch marks on them from when I would stretch them with my fatter stomach... ouch!!!

ANyway, one fo my co-workers asked me about the Diet. She said she has the book so I told her to read it. It will really give you and explain to you how this works. Well, then she said she is going to do the Atkins Diet and take some Diet pills na dmaybe she will lose weight faster. I told her it was not a good idea. The she asked me why not? So I didn't know what to tell her.

WOuldn't diet pills help you burn fat faster? or maybe the ingredienta in them are not good? IDK. ANyone know what I could tell her?

I told her to give ATkins a try without them and I could help her with support.

I don't think I tried them at the same time as doing Atkins. I just wanted my money back. I didn't loose weight and felt like my guts were on fire. They were thermal. Blah! Really it takes most people about three days to get to the part where the hunger gets itself under control. For most people, Atkins does suppress hunger all by itself. If you have to take something, trying the supplements recommended for weightloss would be a better investment. Tell her to spend her money on a good steak or some shrimp instead! Diet pills are just a waste of money, they don't actually work for the most part. Put it like this, would you rather have a steak this week or diet pills? Its your money!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

    1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
    2nd mini goal: 140!
    3rd mini goal:135!
    4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Thanks Rita... that's the way I would look at it. I guess she feels doing atkins plus throwing in some extra fat burners may speed up the process.

I see that u r so close to your goal. Congratulations. I can't wait to be there. I still have so long to go.

I must admit, I use them and have had success. They help curb the appetite and give me energy to get through workouts. I know different formulas can have adverse effects on some people. I have no doubt that I would be better off without them, but I can use all the help I can get.

I have heard people say the diet doesn't provide all the apatite control they need. So in that case if they help and don't cause problems they may be helpful. Coffee works to help me control my apatite I know a lot of people stall with the coffee though. But I will say that over time your eating habits will change and the craving will become less. You won't be able to eat as much as you use to. For me time made that happen. I gotta warn against those thermal things though, it was rough stuff! I also warn against going for the fastest possible weightloss. I thought I'd get the pounds off and go right back to eating like I did. Luckily I cheated, stopped and started and took a good while to loose my weight. I have very little bagging and sagging if you know what I mean. Also I changed my eating habits with time. And for me that took a long time! But I am not worried I'll regain the weight now, I make better eating choices on or off plan. I have to warn you, once you start eating real foods and thinking about what is in processed foods it may change what you choose to eat forever. That's a good thing!

If your friend wants to lose weight faster, you could recommend that she develops an exercise routine. The whole point of the Atkins way of eating is that you don't feel hungry...so I'm not sure why she'd need diet pills.

Re: Mixing diet pills with atkins diet...

Some people do feel hungry even doing the diet perfectly. I know I do sometimes. While it is a lot better and sometimes even too good at controlling my appetite, some people do feel hungry. I mean if I didn't get so hungry, I wouldn't have gotten overweight in the first place! Its great finding out Atkins will allow you to loose weight and never be in pain. But if you've tried other diets and been miserable before, its a valid concern. If the person can give Atkins a shot, they may find they don't need the pills after all. Not understanding that everyone is different and different things work and don't work for different people is not what this diet is about! Everyone will find out they have different problem foods. Everyone will find out they can handle a different level of carbs and still loose. Everyone will find out their journey is their own! Its okay to be different and have different needs. The truth is the diet works best for people who take time to personalize it for themselves and keep working at it even threw stalls and tough times. It works for the people who cheat and get back up dust themselves off and get back on plan and persist. And for some its fast, for some its slower. Some will loose it once, some will loose it twice. It doesn't matter as long as you end up happy and where you want to be.

This is my third time down this road and I have been able to figure out what does and doesn't work for me. The mistake I WON'T make this time, is deceiving myself into thinking that I can maintain a healthy weight by eating "normal" with portion control. I know all too well that the road to perdition, (at least for me) is paved with doughnuts and french fries.

I do too, still trying to figure out what my own trigger foods are. In the case of Lady's friend, it sounded like she may have been hoping that diet pills + Atkins would mean losing weight extra fast.

Dr. Atkins mentioned some supplements that are good for appetite control or cravings, one of them was chromium I believe. I've taken chromium supplements in the past and it did help curb feelings of hunger. Although, if I feel hungry, I usually go for a small fat/protein snack.

My best friend's sister received a nice check from the phenphen folks... but no matter how nice a check, she will still go to her grave early from a damaged heart.

I could list others with whom I'm acquainted, but the long and short of it is diet pills are flat out dangerous. I have never known a good physician to resort to them (in my own experience). My family physicians have always recommended good diet and good exercise in moderate changes in order to build life-long good health.

If she really wants overnight results, could always get lipo. LOL

I think it's kind of cute that it takes more than 2 weeks to have gained the 20 or 50 or more pounds that we have put on, but we want to lose that weight in less than 24 hours.

Re: Mixing diet pills with atkins diet...

Well, I'm glad I had to work on me this long. I have changed, but it took a long time. I'm stubborn. I do worry about what would have happened if I got it off quicker. Would I have really changed my eating habits? I think I would have been a yo-yo dieter forever. Feast and famine with no balance, no idea how to maintain. That's just me, but I can't be alone in doing things like that. Many of the pills for appetite control are pretty safe though. Speed really isn't good for anybody. And people go around saying Atkins is dangerous too. I did when I was younger and read the magazine articles about it. Back then there was no good information on Atkins! But that should tell you I've been struggling with my weight all my life. People like me should really think more about changing over the long term. Its so not about where you'll be in six months, its all about where you'll be in five years, ten years, the rest of your life!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

One thing to point out is that one shouldn't take those fat-blocking diet pills on Atkins. It kinda defeats the purpose of eating high-fat, right?

Rita Celeste-If your friend wants to do a diet pill I suggest one from a website called www.miracleburn.com. It has hoodia and some other ingredients and it really helps the appetite. I do not, however, suggest she take a prescribed diet drug like phenternine-It speeds up the heart too much, dry eyes and mouth and I feel it is not safe (plus the cost-I was on it two years ago but had to quit-a 2 months supply from a clinic I went to was $150!! I can not use it any more-the last time I tried it I got an allergic reaction-throat swelled up and I started sweating! It is a dangerous drug. Tell her the miracle burn does work-I can personally vouch for it!
