    Dear fellow-dieters!!!
I do want to share with you a discovery I have made today!
It may be not a news for you, than sorry for taking your time....
But I have discovered that you CAN eat CHOCOLATE on Atkins!!!!
And I really mean chocolate.. Though, it should be dark preferably 85% or 99% cocoa!

I've bough today 2 blocks of 99% chocolate...and I found out from the nutrition information: 100 gr of dark 99% cocoa chocolate contains only 8grs. of Carbohydrates!!! It means that a whole block (normally 50 gramms) contains only - 4gramms of Carbohydrates!!!!

DO you know what that mean???
Cocoa is an increadibly nice for your health.. there were numerous studies proving that it helps to reduce possibility of some top illnesses to occure!

Moreover..It can actually influence your mood throght the hormone of happiness - endorphines!

I am a big fan of chocolate and coffee.. And in th egrey, rainy day, when life doesn not seem to be good at all - have a nice cup of fresh (not instant) coffee...with few bits of extra dark chocolate...and you will see..
    there is something more..

    Re: Chocolate

Maybe when you OWL it is legal.
And pure cocoa would should be acceptable according to the rules
    BUT
Chocolate - though I have reintroduced it did make me fat. I respect its potential and power.

Make sure you check the actual ingredients in any bar - as far as I know there is no 'sugar rung' on OWL

You can buy cocoa mass with no sweetener from specialist chocolatiers and make your own chocolate once you are at the nuts/seeds rung of OWL though

        Re: Chocolate

Like those who posted, I'm very wary of the power of chocolate. When I was doing South Beach I used to make a creme of ricotta and cocoa and splenda... was nice as long as I could manage to have just one serving, which was rare indeed. I usually overdid it and wound up feeling bad and gaining weight.

Big chocaholic here. I've slipped up by over-indulging in diabetic (sugar free) chocolate before now... and seen my weight creep up.

I agree that chocolate is one of the wonders of the world, but treat it with care!

            Re: Chocolate

From what I've read, it is the 100% cocoa powder that has the most antioxidant properties. (http://www.naturalnews.com/006754.html100% ) Cocoa powder is ground up chocolate beans. The bars are processed by mixing cocoa powder with fat, emulsifyers and sweeteners. That is why it is more or less meaningless just looking at the carb count of these products and why it is deceiving by looking at the cocoa %. For example, yesterday in a store I saw a bar of chocolate that contained 85% cocoa----but it had enough emulsifyers and sweeteners to total up to 28 grams of carbs.

Also if you use cocoa powder, avoid the "dutch processed cocoa" because it contains less antioxidants than the regular cocoa.

              Re: Chocolate

You know... I was so glad to find some chocolate I could eat... that I droped all cautiosness and ate half a bloc... (4 gr of carbs) ... But thats not the worst I had a terrible stomach pain afterwards.. I tryed again 2 days later..and pain came back, although the ammount this time was very small..only 2 peases...
My chocolate though does not contain any sweeteners..seem to be pure cocoa powder...
But still prety nice on taste ..slightly salty..
But yeah..I am writing back to make sure nobody will make my mistake.. Take care with chocolate!
I have never before experienced any stomach pain at all!

doesn't mean though that sometimes.. just to treat yourself we can't have it

                Probably the sugar alcohols.

It's a powerful lesson, from what I hear tell.

I am sorry you experienced that, Annyshka

BTW I noticed that you are about 20 pounds from your goal weight but are still on induction.

Have you thought about when you are going to move to the main weightloss phase of Atkins and discover your CCLL as well as any foods which affect you adversely (apart from chocolate )?

Bad idea. Did you read Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002)?

From Chapter 18, "The Wrong Way to Do Atkins":

"Misconception: You can just continue to do Induction until you lose all of your weight.
Reality: You will lose weight more quickly if you continue doing Induction, but you won't learn how to keep the weight off permanently if you don't move through the four phases. More important, you will miss out on the benefits of the phytochemicals present in health-promoting carbohydrate foods."

So if you want to reach goal and then very likely gain your weight back, doing Induction until goal is the way to go. Otherwise you should move to OWL.

I was overweight for so long... that I feel if I wount deal with it now..I will never be able to do it...
You do realize that you'll continue to lose weight in OWL, right?

But terll me..do you have any problems with your liver and stomach on this diet?
As I told you in another thread, you should see your physician.

That's not how Atkins works though.
