  • Hello

Been on every fad diet and program around, from Calling Jenny to Gastric Bypass. I finally had ATKINS shoved down my throat by my doctor.
Now I finallyget how to manage my food and my health. So I'm here to lend and receive low carb support.
I'm working with pre-maintenance currently and struggling with my self image. I don't want to forget how long this journey has been and maintain. In my opinion the first step is a big hurtle....just starting was major for me, but a snap once I did it. NOW, the biggest issue how to maintain forever!

        Hi Stubbytails
Welcome to our international ADBB family

I am sure you will get lots of support here

It is great that your doctor recommended Atkins as a way of eating too!

BTW as this post was made in the 14-day induction forum I am moving it into the Main Atkins forum where you are more likely to 'meet' members in your situation.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

WOW, you look fantastic and thank you for the support and help with the board. Sorry about the incorrect post.
I was so lucky to find a doctor that really knew his business and held my hand every step of the way. Dr. Fox is a wise old fox and truly save me from myself.
How did you get your pictures on your post. I have followed the instructions from the search on the board but I still can't get my photos to post.

              Re: Hello

My maintenance tips are very silly, but they work for me. Glad to share and hope it helps.
              1. I ONLY eat things that walk and eggs, cheese.
              2. I DO NOT eat anything with roots or drink milk.
              3. I DO NOT snack on anything but protein.
              4. I take my vitamins no matter what.
My 4 tips on posted on the fridge, and both my husband and I look at it everyday. I started before him and after I lost my first 40# he got on board. So we watch each other. I make sure that I have the fridge stocked with chicken, beef and turkey. I keep alot of different cheeses on hand.
I am additicted to good coffee with lots of cream, and I purchase heavy whipping cream and cut it with water (that is a big carb savings).
My biggest problem was me, trying to cut corners at the grocery store and save money by purchasing the cheapest cuts of meat and just cheap food loaded with empty calories and lots of carbs.....
Finally I realize that good cuts of meat, good non-processed cheese, butter and cream are a lot cheaper than insulin supplies and doctor visits. I am worth more....it only took me 57 years to learn that one. Some of us are just a bit slow.
              I promised me, that when I got under 200# I would buy a motorcycle.....and I DID!
My rewards are no longer something sweet to eat.
              Christine

Does this mean you don't eat any vegetables?

Glad that you found something you could do but it is not for me. I have reached goals by introducing a lot of different foods and I my plan is to continue this in maintenance. I like my carbs. I just want to control them.

                    Re: Hello

Since you are not eating any green stuff, I'd recommend a small salad to try and see how that works for you. If it makes you more hungry, if you stop loosing weight. And I did say stop, not merely slow down. Cause slowing down for the last little bit is normal. Finding out how much of what carbs we can have is pretty much what it is about this point. It is a rare person who can't handle a little lettuce, or cucumber or something and still not need meds. If you are not eating anything green, I'd read about every level of the Atkins diet that has green stuff. They all do have some. Now some people find they can't very much at all, but this is the time to find out!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                    1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                    2nd mini goal: 140!
                    3rd mini goal:135!
                    4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.
