Re: How many times did you try Atkins?

This is my second time. The first time I did it was back in 2003, and I was VERY successful, going from 265 to 190 over the course of a year. I did it as a group effort with my mother and sister, but didn't REALLY read the book. I stopped when I was small enough for my liking (at the time). As the weight crept back on, I contemplated starting again, but I had a very difficult few years recently, and there was always something that kept me from doing it. I gained back all but thirty pounds of the weight.

This spring, I realized that I really needed to do something about my weight, so I did the usual low-fat, low-calorie regime throughout spring and most of the summer, exercising nearly every day. Total weight lost? None! I was always ravenous and not getting any smaller or healthier.

Then, faced with my sister's fall wedding and the purple strapless satin bridesmaid's dress , I recommitted myself to doing Atkins the right way, with the book and the support of friends and family. I had to have my size 20 dress taken in to a 16 by the time the wedding rolled around (two weeks ago now), and I looked pretty good, if I may say so! Not as good as I will eventually look, but better than when I bought it.

I have seen major success on this plan before, and if I'd done it the right way the first time, I probably wouldn't be here posting about this at all. But I'm glad, in a way, that I came back to Atkins the way it was supposed to be done, because now I think I have a much stronger foundation upon which to build a lifetime with this way of eating.

I will ONLY weigh once per week! I will refer to DANDR 2002 and this forum when I have questions. I will revel in new recipes, new clothes, and the new feeling of being happy in my skin. I will hold myself accountable to do this the right way, without excuses, because I know that Atkins is the best thing for my health and happiness. I. Will. Succeed!

Re: How many times did you try Atkins?

Third time for me. The first time was in 2000. Lost 50 pounds but quickly put it back on plus some.

The second time was 2003. I lost 60 and crept up more slowly but reached an all-time high in August of this year.

I am now faced with wanting to lose 80 pounds and have dropped 45 to date. I'm a slow learner and finally realize that if I want to keep the weight off, I will need to transition through the different phases and not fool myself into thinking I can eat "normal" and just exercise portion control.

Like many others have inferred, I've "tried" Atkins 2 or 3 times before this, but this is the first time I've actually "done" it. Every time before I was still allowing myself several beers (or was that several six packs, lol) a week during induction. Making and reaching goals and rewarding myself with a 6 pack, lol. Needless to say that way didn't work out very long. This time I've been sticking to the book for 9 weeks with only one small slip-up.
