Yesterday my wife and I went to see "New Moon." In the past, I was powerless over the smell of the popcorn (them smell is how they get you); we would often split a large tub and two drinks. I couldn't walk into a theater and NOT buy popcorn! Yesterday we walked right by the vending area, unaffected. We sat in the theater, watching all of those around us with their popcorn; we looked at each other a few times, both at moments of weakness, but we didn't give in. After the movie started, we didn't think twice about the popcorn. The best part is that we got out of the movies and spent less than $20, not $40!
Later, we found ourselves at a restaurant with a lunch buffet. My choices: sausage soup, 2 slices of turkey, meat loaf, broccoli. My wife (who is not on Atkins, but is losing weight) gave me a spoonful of her ice cream and that was enough to crush any craving.
So where did this new resolve come from? Last year, I would have eaten a half (or more) of a large tub of popcorn, and I would have loaded my plate with mashed potatoes and other carbs. Now, I want nothing to do with it. It came, partially, from all of you! Thank you, my virtual support group!
The scale still hasn't moved, but it will. It HAS to, eventually!
