  • Feel SO Much Better - Week 3

I got through induction with 7 lbs lost quickly, 4 of them gained back just as quickly, and a new outlook on food. Induction for me meant getting my body used to the new way of eating. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but it was frustrating because I expected pounds to melt off (foolishly.) I started at 294 pounds, dropped to 287 pounds, then went up to 290-291 pounds for the second week of induction. There I stayed.

I feel like a new man today, in my third week. It is like a veil has been lifted; like I was wading through muck, only to be set free. I feel more open and, more importantly, more ALIVE. The scale budged a little bit (back down to 287 pounds), but this new feeling is downright intoxicating. I replaced the starches, sugars, and processed grains in my diet with salads and extra protein.

My message to newbies and those who are frustrated at a lack of weight loss: it ain't ALL about the pounds; rather, it is about your health. If you feel good, then good things are happening inside. Remember, the fundamentals of Atkins don't change: in the absence of carbohydrates to use for energy, your body has to turn to stored fat to burn for energy. Weight loss may be slower for some, but it will come to you. It works if you work it.

    Congrats on the pounds lost!

So are you moving to OWL or doing Induction a little longer?

I am moving on to OWL, although it seems more like an induction/OWL hybrid approach. Why? Because I am extremely resistant to weight loss and my CCLL is somewhere in the 20 - 60 gram per day range (still trying to figure it out to the gram), which is the range for induction. However, I am also on the first rung of OWL (working salad into my meal plans.)

I think I'm missing something. 20 net carbs means you have an average metabolic resistance and 60 net carbs is at the higher end of a low metabolic resistance.

And 20-60 net carbs is a very wide range!

How many net carbs would you expect to eat in order to consider yourself having a normal/low metabolic resistance?

still trying to figure it out to the gram
        That's what OWL is for...

which is the range for induction.
20-60 net carbs is the range for Induction? Where did you read this?

Looking at the charts in DANDR it looks as if you exhibit a high metabolic resistance to weightloss (losing 7 pounds out of a hoped-for 94 total) so you might have a low CCLL.

However OWL will tell you if you follow the instructions I am sure.

It might be worth adding a few weeks of 5 net grams of OWL rung one veg to see how high you can go and still lose - remember a loss of inches is loss of fat as well as loss of pounds, so do measure several parts of your body to have some check points.

Once you have found your CCLL you could always swap out some net veggie carbs to try the higher rung foods.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks for the advice. I am still trying to figure out how much and what kind of carbs my body can tolerate. Whatever that level turns out to be, it will most likely be very low.

            I am down a pound, to 286!!
