  • VERY interesting appointment

today i had a follow up appointment with my preventative medicine doc at loma linda. he is the one who proved to me thru saliva testing that no, i was not losing my mind. i was simply producing almost no progesterone, thus my maniacal feelings!

i discussed my weight with him. he asked me what i was doing and when i explained my plan (i call it the "no white food" plan) he leaned back in his seat and BEAMED at me. then he pulled out HIS "diet" plan that he would share with me.

funny thing.....sure looked like atkins to me! he said i am right on the mark. the only thing he did suggest is that due to my "tender age" and the slowing of my metabolism, that i should include a protein snack midmorning and mid afternoon, in effect, having 6 small "mealets" throughout the day (if you include something before bed.) this would in effect, keep my metabolism raised and burning throughout the day. those snacks....protein shake, almonds, etc.

this doctor is so interesting. he became an "expert" in the field of hormone therapy AFTER working with and studying women and obesity!

so i have it on very good authority that we are on the right path. hoo-rah. i'll see him again in 3 months and i know i will be back at goal!

i am editing this to add that for those of you who don't know...loma linda university's medical center is one of the leading research hospitals in the area. they have an extensive teaching hospital and the care is top notch. dr. p. is very well known in his field!

Don't you just love discovering more and more Doctors coming on board with this WOE?
I have Kaiser Health Plan, and about 15 years ago I went through an INTENSIVE weight loss program with them, and you guessed it, Low Fat/No Fat. It didn't work, I gained bunches. However, when I saw my Doctor earlier this summer, I discovered they are now advocating a more carb restricted plan. Not Atkins, but about a 180 from where they were.

Yay! I wish they were all so enlightened. I have to say the oncologist who gave my my follow up on a mammo also told me that I should stick to a low carb diet. We are winning them over one at a time!

That's great. It sure does feel good when your medical provider is in agreement. I see primarily a Nurse Practioner and when I told her I was quitting Lipitor because I didn't like the side effects she said "Just get back on Atkins and come see me for more blood work in 6 months" (she knew I had done it before). I wish they would tell more people that, but I'm quite certain she only went there with me becasue we've talked about it before and I've had success, although not long term.

                I love this!

My fiancee who lives in Canada went to see his doctor, shared that I was doing the Atkins WOL and his doctor said that man is a genius. I was so happy to hear that! So when he arrives tonight, visiting for Thanksgiving, I'm going to hand him the book first and then a hug!
