I started getting sick early, early Monday morning... nausea, body aches, sharp headache...

So Monday by about 2 pm I decided to try a little broth, and kept it down. I tried an egg, and was a little dicey. More broth later. Two eggs in the evening. A little cheese. Churning churning...

Woke up ravenous but still churning, still body aches and still headache. I caved and ate crackers. I must admit, my stomach did calm down.

Is it common to have to go off the WOE due to illness?

    Re: stomach flu

So sorry to hear you have been sick.

I think you did try your best under the circumstances. I can't say I would do any different. Given the fact that you have been sick, and haven't been eating much, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have some low carb bread (whole wheat) in my freezer that I would probably use if I were sick. Its hard to get past crackers and toast and come up with alternatives when you are sick. Last time I started to feel sick I was at a loss. I managed to stay on plan and just ate less but can't say that I really enjoyed it.

    Take care and feel better!

      >>s it common to have to go off the WOE due to illness?>>

Common? I think it depends on whether or not the sick person is "using" the illness as an excuse to eat <insert off plan food here>.

It's not as if you were knocking back the leftover Halloween candy.

When one is truly sick, then the important thing, in my opinion, is to get better.

If all that will stay down is crackers, then crackers it is.

There are low carb choices ... however, they may or may not work for every illness.

Get better, and keep going from where you were.

I would say do what you need in order to get well. As long as while you are doing it you are concerned about your choices, you are doing well. I hope you feel well soon...

I tried pumpkin soup this afternoon, and so far I'm ok. The thought of throwing back Halloween candy just ewwwwwww LOL Nor any of the other stuff. I put the crackers back in the cabinet and haven't had anymore. Thank you for your answers and well-wishes.

Once you are up to cooking maybe try making some flax crackers. Not the same as 'normal' ones but they might do.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

during the first 2-3 years of the diet i found it was common to go off the WOE do to being sick but it was because when i was sick the sickness effected my mind and judgement

perhaps a sub conscious thought that i was sick and if im sick i must change my way of eating to get healthy again. however when i did go off the diet while being sick i got WAY sicker

so now i know better that if i catch a cold or something and am sick to NEVER go off Atkins because i know now that il get even sicker if i do xD

                  Re: stomach flu

I hope you have a swift recovery!

I have nasty TOM issues and have fought laryngitis and a cold this last week, but stayed on-plan. Not really tempted to stray anymore. Relating to what ziggy said above, I know I'll feel worse if my body gets a sudden influx of carbs. My stomach has a dim view of that sort of thing...so for me, it's not worth it to add gastric issues to the mix of whatever illness I happen to have.

That said, it's tough sometimes to stomach food that isn't the normal comfort food when you're ill, especially if things taste different or your stomach is already upset. Take care of yourself, and jump right back in when you feel better!

I will ONLY weigh once per week! I will refer to DANDR 2002 and this forum when I have questions. I will revel in new recipes, new clothes, and the new feeling of being happy in my skin. I will hold myself accountable to do this the right way, without excuses, because I know that Atkins is the best thing for my health and happiness. I. Will. Succeed!

                    Re: stomach flu

I've been sick with a respiratory infection this week myself, doing nothing hardly but sleeping and going to work and then back home to sleep. I was just too ill to worry about entering stuff into fitday or counting my carbs much, I just want to feel better. I have had little else besides chicken broth spiced up with garlic and onion and some red pepper to help break up the congestion and some hot tea with tiny bits of honey. I did have 3 saltines in my chicken broth once. I got sugar free cough drops, but there is probably some sugar in the cough syrup I had in the cabinet and I'm using it anyway. I did enter fitday info for one day and it was 30 carbs, which is okay for me, but only 600 calories. I just can't worry about it much when I feel this bad. Trying to make reasonable choices that aren't too bad but I think you just have to do the best you can until you feel better.

                    Well wishes.
