  • I don't understand it, and it's making me angry..

    Hi there...again!

I've been doing well on Atkins for a while now, but all of a sudden I'm gaining pounds AND inches (everywhere!) It started on Saturday, when I gained 1.5 lbs overnight and I can't shake it. At first I thought it might be because TOM is due any day now, but does that explain the inches I've gained all over my body? The only place I've lost 1/8th of an inch is my neck, everywhere else I've gained. Can I really be that bloated??

I'll post detailed menus if requested, but here is some other stats for now (have to go have breakfast first).

    20th:
    Fat 72%
    Prot 25% (116.6g)
    Carbs 4%
    Cal 1839
    Carbs from veg 13.2

    21st:
    Cal 1714
    Carbs from veg 13.5
    Fat 67%
    Prot 29% (122.7g)
    Carbs 4%

    22nd:
    Cal 1756
    Carbs from veg 13.6
    Fat 68%
    Prot 28% (124.6g)
    Carbs 4%

    23rd:
    Cal 2030 (oops)
    Carbs from veg 13.2
    Fat 70%
    Prot 27% (136.6g oops again)
    Carbs 3%

    24th:
    Cal 1714
    Carbs from veg 11.2
    Fat 72%
    Prot 25% (108.6g)
    Carbs 3%

I also make sure I drink a minimum of 75oz of water per day.

    Thanks!

Bloating can add a few inches. Don't panic about it.

A few months ago I gained 7 lbs overnight, before TOM. It can happen. It's water... and it goes away in a few days.

More water would be better. Especially when you are dealing with water retention.

Did you consider moving to OWL? You've been doing Induction for quite some time now.

1.5 lbs gain overnight=water weight. Unless you ate 1.5 lbs of food and haven't gone to the bathroom since. I am a guy and I use to get water retention here and there.

Stay on the plan and weigh yourself in a week or two. The 1/8 inch lost from your neck is what really matters. Good job!

        Yes.

Didn't this happen to you before Atkins?

I would also strongly urge you to move to OWL.

          Okay then, OWL it is!

I was okay with gaining the weight. What bummed me out was that I gained so many inches. I only expected to gain a bit across my tummy (I can always feel it in my clothes) and I've never measured myself so soon before TOM. Oh well, this is a HUGE learning curve!

Should my percentages for fat, carbs & protein still be in the same ranges when I'm on OWL?

They will naturally change as long as you eat the same number of calories. Since you are adding more carbs and protein stays the same, fat will slightly go down.

            I wouldn't worry about percentages.
