  • Can't stand those cursed advertisements!

Everywhere I turn I see delicious food...particularly the kind that I cannot eat. I have been on Atkins just over 2 weeks now and I have not cheated, not even once, but can't these companies at least make it a little easier?

First there was the commercial with the special brownie pan that bakes them in squares, then the show about 20 different ways you can serve the brownies. Then, yesterday, my Harry and David catalog came in the mail. 40 pages of CHOCOLATE!

I wish there was a way I could zap any of those commercials and catalogs, but, if they didn't come, I wouldn't have any idea how strong and dedicated I was to this new way of living!

    Why can't you eat them?

Last time I checked, caramel, cookies, milk chocolate truffles, chocolate cake and pirouline wafers were not on the list of foods acceptable during induction.

Well, that doesn't mean you can't eat them. You just choose not to.

they do them adds for a reason to try and get people to buy there item

they lie , deceive , they use many tricks they say its part of a balance breakfast (lie) they say its heart healthy and slap on heart healthy logos (lie) they say its got 0 trans fats (lie) they put adds to make kids want to get that item like fruit loops or other kelloggs items makeing it look good and yummy (deception)

most things on TV = lies , deception , sin , and in stores as well

you wouldnt think its yummy and good if they didnt lie or deceive

it would show something like not part of a balanced breakfast will cause obesity , type 2 diabetes , and make your heart explode it will also cause a range of other illnesses and tony the tiger would be like there crrrrap! and the kelloggs characters would all be super fat and very diseased/dieing and then they say but atleast it tastes good

Honestly, the longer I do this WOE, the less tempting all those foods are.

They look good but my desire for actually eating them has gone down considerably.

My sense of taste has changed. The times I've sampled a few of the foods I used to love, they no longer taste the same either.

Most of the things advertised on TV really aren't good for you, despite all their claims.
            Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
            STAC Restart: 1/05/09
            306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

            Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
            Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

            Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
            Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
            Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you!

Re: Can't stand those cursed advertisements!

One of the first things my SIL did when she arrived Monday was go grocery shopping for what she called her "spread"... basically a snack bar of foods for folks to snack on during their holiday visit here.

A few things hit me squarely... one, I was so thankful for the support of my friends here on ADBB. Thanks to them I was sure to have my own shopping done before guests arrived and had my own low-carb snacks set up in advance. The family enjoyed the healthier choices as well.

Two, I realized that had I been eating like I was before this WOL, there would have been no snacks for the family who arrived Wednesday. I would have eaten the chips and dips and snack mix on Tuesday. LOL

Three, because I don't feel deprived on this WOE and because I'm for the first time ever getting real gut level honest about my food, I saw those snacks as simply something I don't want to do to myself.

              I do love this WOE!!!

The commercials used to really bother me to - especially the Dairy Queen ones (ice cream is my BIG downfall). When I saw your post my first reaction was "I know exactly what you mean"...then I realized - I can't remember the last time a commercial bothered me. I'm sure I've seen them, the adds for chocolate, ice cream, cake, candy, chips, etc are relentless - I guess they just don't bother me anymore. When I first started, I even chose to drive home a different route to avoid seeing the Dairy Queen sign advertising the Blizzard of the month and the posters in their window with the pictures of all of the lovely treats.

I imagine those ads will stop bothering you over time - I truly believe "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".
