  • Dreaded Work's Christmas Dinner-How do u resist temptation??

    Hey,

    I've got my work's do on Thursday night and am really anxious to stay on plan. I've had a look at the menu on offer and want to know what u guys think...

    STARTER: I'm gonna go for the prawn cocktail, however I'm quite wary of the sugar content. However, it's the best option out of stuff, like potato and leek soup, spring rolls etc

    MAIN: Christmas Dinner on a Skewer-I'm gonna go for that as I think it's like kebabs (I hope). The other options are really carby stodgy stuff like fish and chips etc

    DESSERT-giving it all a wide berth by giving someone else it.

    Also, I'm gonna be drinking vodka and diet soda (Not many, as I have Uni the next morning)

    What do you guys think??

    Avoid the cocktail sauce.

    Alcohol isn't permitted on Induction.

    Nor do you need to drink anything alcoholic at a party ... ever.

      To the second part of your question - about temptation.
      I think what you are doing is the best thing. You are researching and planning. Since you are planning you will be prepared and you can decide to stick to the plan. I also often eat before events like that so that I can pick a few very small snacky things if I am not sure about the carb contents and be happy about. Maybe have a small treat planned for when you get home. So if you start to feel deprived you can look forward to that.
      Also be aware that alcohol may just have a more severe impact on you when you are in ketosis/on Atkins so watch that carefully. Sometimes we do the weirdest things when we get inebriated. I would sip a lot of water - and I would have fun enjoying the company.

        Thanks for your replies!

        I am actually not in induction-this is my 22nd day and moved up a rung, so a couple of vodkas should be okay??

        The dinner is a sit down affair and I don't want to draw attention to myself by not eating anything! lol (Tonight, I told my co-workers I'm not having dessert cos I'm 'abstaining from sugar' and the reaction wasn't good)

          Alcohol is a Rung 5 "food".

          Will there be dancing? Spend lots of time on the dance floor - burn some calories I would eat before I went (something small, maybe 1/2 a meal...) then eat the prawns no sauce, a little of the meat and the veggies. No one will be paying attention to how much you eat if you don't say anything - trust me! Been there!

            Yep-there will be dancing, however, I'm wearing heels (4 inches) for the first time in years, so I may give that a wide berth!!

              Alcohol isn't allowed until the 5th rung of OWL.

              However, you won't be the first to drink alcohol before the appropriate rung.

              A "couple" of vodkas might knock you for a loop though.

              Really ... no one will care what you eat or don't eat.

              However, having alcohol after being in ketosis might cause you to act really loopy, so that might cause more attention to you than what you eat!

              Whatever you do, it's your CHOICE.

              No reason to let "others" make your decisions for you ...

                I'm fortunate I guess, my husband's work Christmas party is Dec. 8th and they're having a steak dinner. At least I know there will be ONE thing I can eat!
