Re: When should I notice weight loss?

How about noticing the signs of health gain instead? The waning cravings and return of appetite control. Sleeping better and waking up refreshed. Being able to move about vigorously without getting winded. Going about your day without crashing after lunch or walking around like a zombie after dinner.

When you begin to feel those things, you'll know that your body is becoming a more efficient (and fat-burning) machine. In the meantime, take your measurements and try on a pair of jeans that didn't quite fit you before. Over time, the measurements and the clothes will tell you much more about your progress than the scale.

Re: When should I notice weight loss?

I think a lot of it depends on how you gain and where - I tended to gain fairly evenly distributed all over, which meant I could gain 15 or more pounds and really not even notice. That being the case, I had to lose quite a bit before I REALLY could tell it. I would notice little things here or there - my calf looked a tiny bit skinnier, or a ring was looser, etc, but as far as my clothes even, it took me about 50 pounds to go from a 3x (very forgiving size that covers more of a range than smaller sizes would) down to a 2x in shirts. I did notice a little quicker in pants - first they got a little more comfortable, then they got to where an hour or so after I had worn them they would look baggy. Only really fit good right after I put them on when they had shrunk up some in the dryer. It wasn't long after that when I had to move down a size, but it still had taken a few dozen pounds. The more I lose, though, now it shows up easier than it did at first.

I definitely recommend taking your measurements in a number of places - wrist, forearms, upper arms, chest, waist, thighs, calves...

And if you can, take your picture or have someone else take your picture (several of them) in some outfit against a plain backdrop. Then take it again, in the same outfit if possible, when you have lost 5 or 10 or 15 pounds and then you can study the pictures and see it better.

If you are one of those folks that tends to gain all or most of their weight in just a few spots, though, you might be able to tell pretty quickly - 5 pounds might be noticeable if it all comes off of your waist or chest, for example.

Regardless of whether you think you can tell or not, stick with it. I haven't seen anyone yet who has stuck with it and lost 20 or 30 or more pounds who can't tell it at that point, LOL!

      Best of luck,

Re: When should I notice weight loss?

        Warm welcome aboard!
Hang in there. Measuring is good advice. Many people lose inches before actual scale weight. Depends on a whole host of things (time of month, exercise, sodium in foods, medications, age, gender....). The tape measure is a far better guage of body shrinkage than the scales, which is notoriously cruel at times. Also, some people just need a little longer before their body realises they're serious and starts to let go of the lbs.

If you follow the plan to the letter, it'll happen for you, I'm positive. Keep us posted. We're all in this together.

Re: When should I notice weight loss?

The first two weeks the scale can do some wacky things so I suggest that rather than focus on pounds lost, focus on doing the Induction cleanly and save the scale for the end of the two weeks.

Have you shared your menu with us? Maybe there is something you need to fix (although I agree with everyone that the scale is sometimes not the true indicator of fat loss - you should measure)

Re: When should I notice weight loss?

I noticed little things after about a week or so - looser rings, my face looked a little thinner. I didn't really get traction on losing inches until about 4 weeks in, and then it was not losing pounds on the scale, but losing inches all over every single weighin/measuring day (I only check once a week).

That's when it really became noticable and when my size 16 pants got a lot looser. By the time I got pregnant, I was in a size 14 and THAT was loose on me!

Be patient - this is the one way of eating that DOES work. Just keep to it, follow the rules, exercise, drink lots of water, and before you know it, the pounds and inches will melt away.

Re: When should I notice weight loss?

Thanks everyone, I am so happy I found this site. Honestly I have not exercised as much as I should, I will increase that. My typical day has been a couple pieces of bacon 3 scrambled eggs with cheese. Lunch has been 4 pieces of bologna or cheeseburger on spinach no roll of course.lol tuna on pork rinds with mayo and swiss cheese heated under brolier. celery with creamcheese with spenda and cinnamon. coffee with half and half and spenda. and drinking water which is hard for me but I am doing it...lol I just feel like a guppy I will measure tonight. I was once in a size 24 now I am in a 14, but I am still 202 I have been heavy since 12 . Thanks ladies so much for your support, I have a feeling this is going to be a hard month......Cindy

I would post your menu under the Review My Menu forum to get advice from the more experienced members here.

I suspect you're not getting enough veggies just by what you say here - veggies should be the majority of your carbs and just what you posted there is not even close to a majority.

Also - be careful with bacon, it can have sugar and carbs (ditto lunch meats). I've had to switch brands of bacon because of that very issue.

I will leave it to those more experienced than I to provide better advice, though!

It's not a hard month - it's a great month! Truly, once you adapt to this way of eating, it's really much better than the old way, trust me! Now that I'm back on plan, I feel... normal... again. Not eating Atkins is abnormal!

Half and half is not allowed on Induction ... use cream.

                    Bologna is pretty processed ...

You don't have enough vegetables ... that's for sure!

Also, there's a limit of 3 servings of Splenda/sweetener per day.

How much water are you drinking exactly?

Many people find that after doing Atkins they are in smaller sized clothes than they used to wear at the same weight before they added extra pounds. So you might end up a smaller size even if your pounds do not vanish as much as you hope for.
Losing inches is a better indication of losing FAT, so maybe as well as having a goal weight you can fix on a clothes size goal and see which you reach first
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                          >>I am drinking about 80 oz a day no less than 64>>

If your current weight is 200, you might want to aim for 100 ounces ... or more.

Many find that drinking 1/2 their current body weight in ounces of water works quite well.

                          >>splenda well I am using maybe 10 tablespoons of that so I will have to cut down right away, I had lost 60 pounds a year and a half ago and dont remember only having 3 servings a day of splenda,>>

                          It's in Chapter 11 and Chapter 18 ... 3 servings/packets per day.

Regardless of what you did before, you could aim for doing it right this time.

And regardless of what you lost before, you don't want to repeat having to lose!

The goal is maintaining what you've lost ... not having to lose it again and again...
