Ok, for a long time now I believe I have IBS. Never gone for testing but all the symptons are there. I know what you are going to say but my physical is coming up in January so I will bring it up there again. But since I started atkins it has disappeared, I can eat "atkins friendly" meals at the restaurant and no be afraid, now during thanksgiving I was eating some of the baked turkey and unknown to me I picked up some stuffing with my meat, that happened one time! and that is all it took to send me running...I usually know when I have taken bad carb by mistake right away because it sends me running..I wonder if my doctor would find that interesting..bad carbs related to IBS. Anybody suffers from this also and gotten better with Atkins?

I started atkins in late november but every other week just sort of fell off the wagon and was not working out..late december I started to really follow it and added the gym from november to december I only lost like 7 lbs not following it right..from december to march 18 I lost 50 lbs give or take depending what mood my scale is on lol. -

I can name 5 or 6 people off the top of my head who have had their IBS problems clear up by following Atkins!

I was reading an article recently that a Dr. in London, England was doing a study which showed that certain sugars caused a greater increase in IBS symptoms, and found that simpler ones, I'm guessing ones we get from fruit, vegetables etc, do less harm. The "bad" sugars ferment too quickly and cause the flare up of symptoms. It's interesting how many ailments seem to go back to sugar consumption. It would be interesting to find out how many cases of IBS were around say 60 to 70 years ago, when less sugar was consumed and added to our food supply, compared to now.

My IBS improved dramatically since I've been on Atkins. I still have a few things that occasionally cause me issues (can't pin down a certain food, I think it's an additive in something).
I think for some folks, it's lactose, wheat/gluten, sugars or many of those processed foods and extras they put in them.
Since eating mostly whole foods I prepare myself and got rid of the starchy things, I'm much better!Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"

I've suspected this with my husband. Sometimes he cannot even make through a meal without needing to hit the bathroom. He isn't following Atkins but I cook the meals, so if he is served a good carb dinner, he eats it. I notice that the meals that I do not offer any high carb options for him, he does great.

i used to suffer from HORRIBLE IBS i couldnt eat a single bite of broccoli or fatning meat with out geting horrible gas all day long i also had dieareea almost everyday
i couldnt walk around cause with in 30 mins my IBS would act up need to go to the bathroom i couldnt run or do any exercise what so ever cause my IBS would act up right away and need to go to the bathroom
my stomach and intestines were completely destroyed my life was ruined my stomach hurt bad everyday and i couldnt go around anyone because my IBS would give me horrible bad smelling gas all day long
but now that im on atkins my IBS and my stomach is 100% managed in everyway i can now eat as much broccoli and fatning meat as i want and get no gas at all no stomach pains at all i can do as much exercise as i want and my stomach is strong now all the things that i thought would be impossible for me to do are now possible because of this way of eating i can eat a giant meal and then exercise hard and no problems what so ever i can do cardio and all sorts of exercises and get no problems what so ever
my IBS , stomach , intestines etc etc are all perfect now the atkins diet has basically saved my life
during the start of atkins it would be uncomfortable to eat any food with my damaged stomach but i had to make sure i ate meat so my body could heal itself it slowly got better and better and things i noticed right away was 95% less gas the only 5% of gas that was left was from damaged spazmatic intestines which were healed in time and the 5% of gas that was left did not smell bad for some reason
it took me a good 6 months on atkins to fully heal my damaged stomach , intestines etc but everyday it got better and better and i think if i had avoided foods like mayo it would have healed faster than 6 months mayo irritates my gut
i suffered from IBS-D type and yes last time i ate 2 bites of a sweet potato my IBS acted up again but not for very long only took like 5 hours to get over it but as long as i stick to the good foods my IBS is 100% managed but it feels like its 100% cured
i find sertain foods i also need to avoid besides just bad carbs for my stomach to do its best
White and black pepper, vinegar, capers, cinnamon, Cornstarch, Corn syrup, Nutmeg, Vanilla , Ketchup, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, relish Coffee, Distilled liquor, Black Tea
i also avoid eating too much fiber its not as bad as the other foods i listed that i avoid but it still upsets my gut alot if i eat to much but people who dont suffer from IBS or who suffer from constipation seem to like fiber

I thought I was the only one! My whole life has changed because of Atkins. My husband always said he never knew anyone who went to the toilet as much as I do. lol. Everytime I fall off the wagon and go back onto carbs not only does my weight pile back on but all the symptoms of IBS appear again.
Atkins for life and to live a decent life.

Well, I am glad ( well not happy you all have it) I am not alone. I know a lot of junk we eat can can be causing us harm for example you can be Caffeeine intolerant and have those symptons, glutton also..but all in all the junk we consume is ruining our lifes, not only in the pant size but I had pretty much stop going out period..the only thing I would have outside of the house was water and my stomach would be so nervous to have that..that even that gave me an ache. Thanks everybody for sharing
