Wonderslim cocoa

I found an old tin of this from the first time I did Atkins, used it up recently, and enjoyed it. It costs twice as much (plus shipping) as the cocoa I can get at my grocery store and I'm wondering if it's worth it. It has one less gram of carb and zero sugar, which obviously is a plus. However, the most cocoa I consume on any given day is 1 T for a recipe that I like. I'm wondering if Wonderslim is worth the extra cost. Thoughts?

Seems to me it's a clever bit of marketing!

I can't imagine that the cost of it is "worth it".

It doesn't seem to have any magic properties that the cocoa at the grocery store doesn't.

I would also be careful of trusting their carb count ... compare their count to the USDA or Fitday.

And remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

With a name like 'Wonderslim' it immediately made me think is probably plain cocoa powder repackaged as a magic slimming aid

I'm confused... I looked up regular cocoa powder online, and for a tablespoon it gives 3g carb, 2g fiber same as the Wondercocoa. The only difference is the Wondercocoa is fat free.

Fat free??? Pfffffffft gimme my fat, chica! Oh and the Wondercocoa lists 20 calories a serving while the NutritionData site lists 12 for regular cocoa.

Seems to me if you're at the rung where you can have cocoa it doesn't matter. *shrug*

My cocoa is not wonderslim but it has zero carbs because the fiber and carbs cancel each other out (I use Fry) But yes before someone dives down and correct this I am aware that rounding still means there will be carbs
No fat - I agree - who came up with that idea.

My cocoa (Cinch Baking Cocoa) has 10 cal per tablespoon, 2g/2g carb and fiber (I know, rounding!), 0.5g fat. And cost me $1.29 for 8oz at Fresh & Easy.

Wonderslim comparatively sucks!

Wondercocoa is a fine product containing only 100% cocoa powder. The nutritional stats are the same as Hershey's or other unsweetened cocoa powders that you buy in the grocery store so I'm not sure what the difference would be other than price.

The Wonderslim name confuses me though. Diet Direct has a whole line of Wonderslim products (low carb meal replacements and snacks) as well as their Wonderslim diet plan so I'm curious as to how Wondercocoa got to use the Wonderslim name?

I do agree with others that the name renders it a bit suspicious since it sounds like a wacky diet scam, but as you point out, it's actually a fine product. I bought this back when I did Atkins the first time because it has no sugar and no caffeine, which for me were the big selling points. The cocoa in my grocery store has both, unfortunately, although the amount is probably negligable given how little I use.

I posted about it here because I've learned that there usually is someone here with extra knowledge about any given product associated with the low-carb WOE. If there was any particular or special insight, I wanted to find out.

If cocoa, by definition, has caffeine, then how is it that this "miracle" version of it does not?

Or is it another part of their "advertising"?

I was wondering about that too. The product says 100% pure cocoa powder, 99.7% caffeine free. How do you decaffeinate cocoa??? I've never heard of decaf cocoa (or chocolate). I wish it were so but I just don't think the decaf part is true.

Out of curiousty I just looked for and found a number of patents and proccesses for decaffeination. Most of them describe their use as being for coffee, tea and cocao. It makes sense to me really, how different is a coffee bean from a cocao bean anyway?

Maybe it just doesn't happen that often with cocao because people are less concerned about caffeine from cocao considering how little most people eat vs. how much much coffee people intake a day. Or maybe people don't mind de-caffeinated coffee but draw the line at someone messing with their chocolate!

Anyway, it looks totally plausible to me that the cocoa would be caffeine free, at least as much as caffeine free coffee is.

Then I would expect the label to state that ... as it does with coffee!

I still think it's likely to be a "gimmick" ... and a pricey one at that!

From what I've read online, there is nothing special with "99.7% caffeine free". 0.3% caffeine is just what the average cocoa powder has.
