  • Too much pain on Carbohydrates

    Hi All,

Its been a while since I posted on here , mainly because I was unable to loose weight when doing Atkins. I did try very hard , and initially lost some weight but I stalled out for months and months , and eventually got bored and gave up.

    However

I can't go back to a full carbohydrate diet even if I want to . As soon as I start eating all the refined flour / pastries / biscuits / Crisps / junk food , my back and hip pain becomes really bad again .

So now I am forced to stay on a low carb diet if I want to stay off pain killers. Every time I try to go back to a carb laden diet , I get so much pain I return to a type of Atkins diet , Lots of protein and veg and fruit.

I have done searches on the net to see if anybody else has found that reducing carbs lowers pain , but nothing comes up . There never sems to be anything on the medical websites , except what Dr Atkins himself said (that it reduces joint pain)

I am absolutely positive that it is not just "all in my head" or a co-incidence , I have purposefully eaten a carb rich diet for a few weeks on 2 or 3 occasions , and each time the pain returns , so I go back to my (sort of ) Atkins woe.

So , I am really happy I found Atkins , but not for the usual reasons.

I guess that If I eat lots of fish, dairy products, meat , fruit and veg I should stay fairly healthy .

    Thanks

Re: Too much pain on Carbohydrates

For me the greatest advantage of staying the course on Atkins even when stalled has been that my calories count. That is to say, when I eat all the junk foods I get no nutrition, no fuel for my body nor soul. When I eat the good stuff, my calories carry a punch! I get freedom from reflux, greater range of motion in my joints, more awareness, no more late afternoon slump in energy... so I figure even if I'm stalled I want to stay the course. Eventually the stall passes, and I reap all the other benefits of leaving empty calories out of my diet.

Welcome back to the boards mate.

when you were trying to lose weight do you know all the tips and stuff that help

dont eat aspartame it causes stalls

dont eat anything thats not on the allowed list for example i ate these thin 10 net carb whole wheat wraps for a long time and it was impossible for me to lose weight while i was eating them and they were only 10 net carbs later i found out whole wheat is a rung 9 food

did you eat to much protein? 58% of protein can be converted to glucose and for most people it wouldnt prevent weight loss but some peoples kidneys act up and it does the diet is high fat , medium protein , low carb 65% fat , 30% protein , 5% carbs

and dont eat any soy or any atkin products the atkin shakes and bars cause stalls and have crap in them
      Welcome to Soy Online Service

also from my own exp i whent from 330 to 230 pounds and that was it i could not get any lower than 230 pounds however then i started going to the gym and lost another 50 pounds of fat and gained 50-60 pounds of muscle
you may just be a big guy and you have reached your healthy weight and your healthy weight is keeping you fat so you need to trade that fat in for muscle by going to the gym and working all your muscles like i did

Re: Too much pain on Carbohydrates

I can vouch for Atkins lessening pain, too. I used to ache all over, I had a difficult time sleeping, and I felt like crap all the time with zero energy.

Since starting Atkins on 11/14, I can't believe how great I feel. I don't have any pain(unless I over do it with the cardio), I sleep wonderfully, and I don't have to take 3 naps just to make it through the day.

I had done Atkins a few years back, but I cheated quite a bit. I'm proud of myself because I haven't cheated at all since starting back, and I don't intend to allow it to happen.

        You can do it!

Sugar causes inflammation - which is probably why when you go back to a junk-laden diet you end up in pain.

Don't over-eat on your meat, this isn't a buffet. Eat til you're satisfied.

And of course - DRINK THAT WATER!!!! 90% of cases where a stall is present, it is due to not drinking enough water. Yes - I just pulled that number out of a hat, but it's got some merit to it because I have had weeks where I haven't lost anything, but then realized my water consumption wasn't nearly what it should be and as soon as I revved it back up again, the weight my body had been holding onto finally let it WHOOSH out.

Anyway - best of luck to you on your journey. Keep away from that sugar!!

Re: Too much pain on Carbohydrates

I've been stalled for a couple of months now, and I was getting discouraged because I am a "scale watcher" but I new if I gave up, I would end up just putting more weight on. I weigh the same now as I did at the beginning of August, but I am wearing smaller clothes and my mother who I see ever week saw me yesterday and couldn't believe how thin my face was. I think that for some, it may just take a longer time, but health wise it is the smart way to go. My main concern is getting diabetes like my mother, so I know that it is the best way to control sugars to be healthy. One of the things that I didn't notice or thought about until later was the fact that before atkins, I would get athletes foot fairly frequently, and I haven't had it since before I started this diet. I don't know if it is the carbohydrates themselves, or the sugars in the carbohydrates.

That's not a stall; that's just great work. Job well done!
