  • Exercise and energy

I posted this on the Buddies thread but thought I would ask everyone for their thoughts.
I am currently on vacation, the temp is about 28/82 and it is breezy. This morning my daughter and I and a friend decided to do a hike that we have done many times before but not on this vacation.. The hike is from sea level scrambling walking up to about 600ft in about 1/2 a mile and a wandering paved walk down of about 2 miles.
This time I found the upward climb really taxing, no problems with my legs but I was totally winded, having to stop several times. The walk down was fine. At home I walk about five miles a day but its not very hilly.
Is it possible that having beem on Atkins for about 10 weeks and having lost 28lbs in that time I am completely out of condition or is because it is difficult for the body to convert fat for energy quickly?
At one point my daughter, a medic made me sit down and eat a cookie because she really felt like I needed an injection of glucose, that was my first none Atkins digresion in my 10 weeks!
Has this happened to any one else?

I run 10K now - could barely walk when I started. So I have to say no.

stick to the diet 100% for a good 4 months your body and muscles should be fully adapted by then

it takes along time for your body to produce enough insulin receptors on your muscles when going from a high carb diet to a low carb diet

You might have found that a 'legal' snack would have perked you up on the walk, so maybe next time make sure you have emergency rations with you.

Is there any particular reason you are still on induction (according to your profile stats)? Moving to OWL means portable snacks like nuts or berries become 'legal' within a few weeks.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

            Hi Ziggy
Thanks for your help but do you know for a fact that this is correct because I have a feeling it has little to do with insulin receptors or insulin production. Willing to be proved wrong though.
            Thanks Ognum
