never satisfied
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up. -
Re: never satisfied
Look at the different foods on both vegetables lists...there must be something you can eat that isn't raw.....green beans? Spinach? What are you eating for your 1 cup of "other" vegetables daily?
If you are hungry try some type of protein with a fat....chicken dipped in mayonaisse, rolled up deli ham with cream cheese & a no sugar added dill pickle....the fat will help keep you full longer.
How much pure water are you drinking daily? Drinking more water will also help keep you feeling full inbetween meals.
Good luck.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Re: never satisfied
i am drinking water though am breastfeeding so it could be i need more. i do get fats. i cook with plenty of butter and cream, and have grape seed oil on my salads.
i am beginning to introduce broccoli nd cauliflower into my diet, but as i keep kosher, any recipe whch combines meat/poutry and dairy or includes bacon/ham is out for me.
i also get frustrated with all the cookin. setimes jst wana reach into te fridge and eat what's there.i'm a horrible planner. if a recipe has ore than 3 iingredients chances are i don't have one. what are the simplest recipes for induction?i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!

>>i am drinking water though am breastfeeding>>
You should absolutely positively NOT be doing any of the weight loss phases if you're breastfeeding!
You absolutely positively do NOT want to be passing ketones to your baby through your breast milk.J.

How did the food get in to the fridge?
>>my sister is ding atkns now with a baby and there has been no problem.>>
How do you know? There's been no long term studies ... what mother in her right mind would allow testing of her baby?
>>s there somewhere i can read up on the risks of low carb dieting and nursing?>>
Well ... there's no studies, since no reputable doctor would do it!
"The weight loss phases of the Atkins Nutritional Approach are not appropriate for pregnant women and nursing mothers."
That's right in the beginning of your copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.
Of course, lots of people will do lots of "silly" and unsafe things ... and put their babies at risk. And the "damage" might not be known for years.
Up to you!J.

Re: never satisfied
Mommy Goes Shopping for Baby Food! Diet and Nutrition for Infant Health.
the risk for low carbing and nurseing is when your body starts into ketosis and it hasnt done it before it spills ketones out of your urin and breath and stuff thats why you get bad breath but it would also spill it out of your breast milk
well i think no one has tested what happens when these ketones are ate by your baby through your breast milk
all the eskimos and stuff and other atkin people who have been on the diet for 6+ months there bodys adapt and do not spill out ketones so its only a concern right at the start cause no one knows what happens
also eskimos and other people have access to lots of healthy organic animal organs to get plenty of vitamins and such but we alot of the time do not have these
but eat like 60-80 carbohydrates a day matience phase of atkins and you should not be in ketosis but should be a fat burning metabolism
you wont lose weight as fast if at all for the first 6 or so months but atleast you wont gain any weight and should be safe breast milk
and dont ever stop breast feeding Breast-feed as long as possible, preferably 2 years or longer. You are producing the best baby food and toddler dietary supplement ever made.
and as for being hungery feeling or something dont worry make sure your eating enough fat eggs and unsalted butter and your tongue is the last part of your body to adapt to the diet
i remmber when i started the diet i had that same odd feeling eating lots but not feeling satisfied it gos away in time just make sure your eating enough fat 60% fat , 30% protein 10% carbs or something and 60-80 net carbs to stay out of ketosis
and do not eat any soy or aspartame

Re: never satisfied
tweedledee,
I think part of what you are experiencing is just simple breastfeeding. I did not have anything to do with atkins when I was breastfeeding and I had that same sensation. I felt like I was always "prowling" for a snack or something. Other Moms in my MOPS group said the same thing. Don't know if you like cheese, but its great for you right now and the baby and its an easy satisfying snack, and no cooking is a plus! Also make up sevral of your favorite things. When you are prowling grab a water and a snack. Maybe that will help. Ok nix the dairy part, I forgot the kosher eating."With God all things are possible."

it a relief to read your post. i was thinking if i feel this way for long i'll never last.
i don't get the point of doing maintenance at all while nursing. i can maintain m weight without a diet. what is the advantage?
.>>How do you know? There's been no long term studies ... what mother in her right mind would allow testing of her baby?,<<
i assure you my sister's mind is just fine. i last read the book long before i got married, but this is my sister's 4th child and she did atkins after every pregnancy. that doesn't mean she was in ketosis but she has lost some weight recently.i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!

really? i never knew that >.<Originally posted by atkinsgal08 View Post>>other atkin people who have been on the diet for 6+ months there bodys adapt and do not spill out ketones>>
That's not correct. People can be in ketosis and spill ketones for more than 6 months.
how long does it take to not spill out ketones?

You want do do maintenance so you're not in ketosis.
You can believe Dr. Atkins or not ... but it was he who wrote that a nursing or pregnant woman should NOT be doing any of the weight loss phases of Atkins.

It's the ketones being passed to the BABY. It's the safety of the BABY.

Re: never satisfied
This did not happen in the Bellevue Hospital experiment, where acetone bodies were present in the urine for the whole time the subjects followed the diet (the whole experiment lasted for over a year).other atkin people who have been on the diet for 6+ months there bodys adapt and do not spill out ketones"Get action.
