newbie on day 10 with no weight loss ...please help

    Just wanted to give you my two cents....I lost zero for 17 days of induction......but THEN dropped 10 pounds in the last two weeks. I drink coffee (and only coffee) for breakfast each morning because I love it and choose not to give it up. I eat about 1000 calories a day because that is all I am hungry for. For those that follow DANDR 2002 by the letter, I am a miserable failure at following the rules. But my carb restricted way of eating is working just fine for me. So you might be like me - a slow starter.

      Thank you very much Moxy!!! I hoped to hear from another coffee lover/addict! unfortunately i simply cannot break that habit! I see that we have simillar weight goals and we also started on the same day(assuming you started 12-1-09) So hopefully a few pounds will leave me soon like you. besides the coffee ( and i EVEN switched from sugar to Splenda which i hate....this is a big deal for me!) anyway besides coffee I DO NOT CHEAT! i have been exercising and drinking water. i can now tell a difference in the appearance of my stomach and have lost an inch~which im thankful for, but i would sure love the reward of seeing the scale move...down. this morning i was up 1.5lbs. i just dont understand it, but im gonna keep chugging along- im bound to lose eventually!

        You can break it ... if you WANT to.

        And ... coffee isn't "cheating".

        It can stall your weight loss though.

              You're welcome! Each person's body chemistry is unique - some of us just take a little longer to get started. There are some people that treat DANDR 2002 as if it is gospel and the only way to approach low-carb nutrition. I am a firm believer that there are many ways that someone can be successful at eating this way. Some people have memorized the book and like to correct others on the board each time they express an opinion or a habit that is not in keeping with Dr. Atkins philosophies. I like this board because it is a place that a wide variety of experiences and opinions can be expressed.

              If you love coffee and enjoy it - I say keep drinking it! Make changes where you can and find what your body and your taste buds are both happy with to make this a lasting way of eating. Perhaps, down the road, if you aren't losing what you want, you might even decide that you have the will power to give your Joe up for a certain period of time to establish whether or not he is the culprit!

                What I've always liked about ADBB is that we're an Atkins Diet bulletin board. And that we give advice based on what Dr. Atkins wrote, not on what Dr. Agatson wrote, or what Pritikin wrote or what Ornish wrote or on what Joe-Whoever does. That quality is what keeps ADBB honest and out of trouble, imo. I mean, look at what happened on some other low carb sites when they allowed Heidi Diaz (aka kimmer) to promote her "kimkins" diet----those low carb site were lucky they weren't dragged into that big kimkins lawsuit!

                So for folks who want to do Atkins, ADBB is the place to be. For the folks who want to do my-ownkins or fake-kins, ADBB might not be an ideal fit---especially when we start quoting the book, citing the Rules, etc. etc. etc.

                If you don't want to give up coffee, creamer, sweetener, etc. it's up to you. But don't kid yourself into thinking what you are doing is in-line with Atkins. And please don't get upset, when you are given Atkins advice after you post a thread wondering why you aren't losing weight.

                  *** I found is so much easier to just drink water in sections. I have my 17oz bottle water. I drink one whole bottle before lunch; i drink my next with my lunch; my next before I go home; one for dinner (which equals 68oz) then I drink 1 after dinner whicle watching a movie or tv and my last I drink right before I go to bed... delicious!!!! At first I peed my belly sore, but now, I guess my body has adjusted.

                    Regarding water, I drink with a straw. I'm constantly refilling my glass because the straw makes me drink it so quickly.

                      I never heard of the "Kimkins diet," so I googled it and...ewwww. Low carb/low fat?

                      The part that irked me was the "Lower fat than Atkins" they boast on the Kimkins website. Well, no *bleep* sherlock, most "diets" probably are lower fat than Atkins.

                        Did you see the stuff about the lawsuits, etc? Kim or whoever she was claimed to have lost tons of weight and I don't remember all the details, but I think she had a website she was profiting from...anyway in all actuality---she was a pretty big girl who lost nothing on the dangerous diet, it was sort of a scam.

                          Oh that's nothing, Lisa. We used to get kimkins people here responding to posts similar to this one. And when we would post "by the book" info, those kimkins people would copy and paste (sometimes link) the Atkins response to another board. They would have a big chuckle over the Atkins response---including kimmer---and post how wrong Dr. Atkins was, etc. etc. etc. I often wonder if kimmer had any chuckles or if she said the prosecutor's expert witnesses were wrong when she was sitting in court during her trial......

                          That's why I'm quite happy ADBB is by the book and that we quote chapter and verse out of it.

                              Mission, Megs and Atkinsgal- I hadn't read much past the base web page. My main curiosity was what type of "diet" plan it was.

                              Definitely sounds like a scam, and dangerous too.
