  • Breakfast Sausage

    Hi Friends,

Bacon is normally my breakfast meat of choice, but I was thinking of trying some breakfast sausage for a change. I read lots of labels a few weeks ago, but seems like I could not find a choice that was ok. Some had too much sugar, too many carbs, etc.

What specific brand and type do any of you prefer? I normally shop at Super Walmart, it is the closest grocery store to me, but not the only one I go to.

Back in August when I just started I bought some, (can't remember the name), and they tasted and looked just awful, and I tossed the rest.
    Any ideas will be appreciated.

    Re: Breakfast Sausage

For links I used Jimmy Deans ... even with the sugar.

Now we're eating Jones frozen links and patties from Costco ... even with the sugar.

It is possible to buy fresh sausage patties (Bob Evans) without sugar ... and that's the brand I buy when I need bulk sausage.

      Hi J,

I actually had that on the notes I took the other day. Jimmy Dean's Original Pork Sausage Patties.

      Carbs-1
      Sugars-0

Although sugar is mentioned in the ingredients about 6 items down. Overall, this seemed to be the best choice out of all of the ones I looked at.

I guess I will buy it next shopping trip.

I'll look into the Jones and Bob Evans as well.

      Thanks!

        Re: Breakfast Sausage

If the JD patties are fresh, I wouldn't buy them because of the sugar ... one can get fresh without.

If they're frozen ... one is pretty much "stuck" with sugar.

And ... the Bob Evans Natural bulk sausage has sugar in it ... the "regular" doesn't.

No matter what, always read the list of ingredients!

            Re: Breakfast Sausage

I used Jones...they do make both a patty and a link that are sugar free. However they are hard to find. I am very lucky that my local grocery store carries them. I eat those over bacon most days.

It's "ironic" that the Costco size bag does have sugar!
