What??? Are you here for help, or do you want to stay fat?
Do you want a solution, or do you want me to tell you what you want to hear, which is what kept you the way you are.

Re: I can hardly find any Low Carb anything in Jacksonville Fl

Okay. Now that I've caught myself up on all the postings, I feel like I've informed myself enough to give an educated and rational response to your original questions in addition to the controversy that would soon follow. I feel it is imperative to stress that these boards are a supplementary resource to those who have read the book (DANDR 2002). It is in paperback and electronic format. In addition to this being a supplementary resource, care should be taken when soliciting for advice. More often than not, the people who are submitting the advice are those who have been around for quite some time and are familiar with Atkins.

Dr. Atkins has repeatedly stated that this way of living is to reduce our sugar cravings and get our body back on track. I can't imagine if you were eating right and exercising that you would be so disgusted with yourself as you indicated in your brave Oct. 30th posting of your pictures, titled: I hope you have not eaten yet, if so please accept my deepest apologies....

One thing we have to always keep in mind is that everything is in context. It is often difficult to ascertain the tone of someone's writing, especially through the Internet. If Georgiana came off as harsh in your opinion, then you should have approached her privately and discussed the issue with her directly. Most of us do not interpret what she says being preachy, but again it all depends on your personal interpretations of other people. If you are going to ask for assistance and someone who is obviously seasoned makes an attempt to provide you the assistance, and then you berate them for doing so, then you should seek help in a place where people will lie to you.

Now, moving on to the issue at hand. You have in your profile that you are still in induction. Is this still true? If this is the case, you should try to avoid eating sweets or anything that tastes sweet during this period. I'm an advocate of eliminating these items from your diet, regardless, but I do understand that we all have varying degrees of willpower. If you would like to eat these things on a regular, then perhaps Atkins is not for you. Maybe consider trying South Beach or Weight Watchers. Additionally, you mentioned that prior to Atkins you did not have these cravings.

If you read the stickies in the forums, and perused your resources as they are provided here, you will come to the understanding that the reasoning for this is because your body is going through carbohydrate withdrawals. So, every imaginable thing that you could think not to have will come to haunt you. Don't get me wrong, even after you are on this diet for a few months, you will still from time to time get cravings.

Now, does that mean we need to act on those cravings? No. Some may argue this is deprivation, but it has been proven time and again, that deprivation is a psychological state in addition to a physiological condition. When are you in a developed country such as ours, chances are your deprivation is psychological, especially if you are overweight. Someone posted on here a while ago something along the lines of the only thing you're depriving your body of is being fat.

If you're serious about your weight loss goals, you should double down, and take the willpower by the horns. You are in ultimate control of your destiny. If you choose to challenge yourself and not to fall back into your old habits, you will succeed.

If, however, you think that these "low-carb" options that are manufacutered in mass quantities are somehow healthy for you, you've got another thing coming.

Some things I would like to point out with these items you are talking about. First, most of them contain dairy which you shouldn't be having on induction anyway. Secondly, they more than likely contain sugar alcohols to sweeten the product. Dextrose, Maltodextrin, Sugar Alcohols, ultimately are all forms of sugar. Sugar alcohols break down into carbohydrates. So, you can very easily not be in ketosis because of this. Enough about that, if you're truly interested in learning how sugar alcohols react in your body, I would advise either searching these boards or utilizing a search engine.

The ultimate question is, what do you want for you? Are you going to get offended each time someone tries to help you or are you going to let your ego get in the way of your weight loss?

        The choice is yours, friend.

P.S. In general, it is best to avoid knee-jerk reactions and implore those you view as your opposition. One can attain greater inner peace this way.

Please don't be offended, but I think you are confusing being preached to with someone offering the correct and best way to follow Atkins, when someone posts contrary to the correct way. This is the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board, and it is here to show people the correct way, not assist people in the incorrect way. When someone posts soliciting a response, they are going to get an answer with the best, correct information possible. That is not preaching. If one can't accept such a reply without getting too sensitive, then one should not post.

Re: I can hardly find any Low Carb anything in Jacksonville Fl

The reason people get a bit up in arms when folks talk about low carb products is that we've seen many people come and go who think they can do Atkins "their way" and want to eat all the low carb products, etc. and then wonder why they do not lose the weight or have problems staying on Atkins.

But if you read the book, you'll learn why eating whole foods and breaking the sugar and carbohydrate addiction is so important.

To me, these products are better meant for maintenance when you know you'll be able to handle and deal with them.

I also found that the longer I'm on Atkins, the less I wanted any of these things such as ice cream, etc.

I never liked cooking much either til I tried doing it more. I don't have much time either, but I try and cook ahead of time for when I'll be busy and freeze and reheat what I need. There's lots of great recipes here for the appropriate rungs that are pretty easy even for the amateur. And even if you're not a great cook, it is something that gets better with practice.

              Good luck!

See, that's what a public forum is. A place for people to comment. Now do you want help or do you want to say fat?

Re: I can hardly find any Low Carb anything in Jacksonville Fl

Thanks for all the replies guys!

But the one thing you guys are missing here is that my initial was "where can I get," that's, nothing more, end of discussion, but what I got what was someone preaching their views on how I should not eat low carb snacks. And as for whether or not I am still on the induction, that is a moot point since I did not ask if low carb ice cream is allowed for that phase.

You see people want to give the info they deem necessary and not what the inquiring individual wants. I asked if there were any online places where I could get ice cream and in return I got was:

                    1) "Did all the stores close, so that there is no place left where you can buy veggies, meat, eggs, cheese, etc.?"

                    2) "One does not need ice cream to do Atkins."

You want to change your eating habits, don't you? Do you honestly believe that eating low carb ice cream will help?"

                    3) "They are doing low carbers a favor, I believe. No matter how you spin it, low carb junk food is still junk food!"

                    4) "Bread, cookies, cakes, ice cream... Don't you see the "problem" in what you wrote?"
                    5) "
And since you are in Induction, breads and "all kinds of good stuff" would not be allowed since they are made with grains (OWL Rung 9), soy (Rung 6) or, at least, nuts (Rung 3).

Breyers ice cream is not appropriate for Induction either. One of the ingredients is milk (Rung 2)."

So please tell me, what does ANY of that have to do with my simple question. NOTHING! It was all preaching on how she thinks Low Carb is junk! She tried to make me feel as if I were some fat 500lbs slob that only eats junk.

The ONLY reason I am fat now and that I have gained this 80lbs was because of breaking my neck and screwing my back up in a car accident, not because I binged on cake and ice cream in front of a TV set 23 hours a day. I never (hardly) ate any crap like cookies or the like, so to have someone attack me as if I were sitting in a reclined lounge chair eating low carb "junk" as if it were a replacement for my Veggie's yeah I am going to get offensive! I asked about a SNACK not where can I get low carb pie or cake to replace my beansprouts with, and that is how i was treated!

If someone asks you, "how can I get the sum of 8 by addition," you give them the answer, 4+4 (the most direct rout) , with out the history of math, or without preaching to the that they should just multiply 2x4 because it is easier. I am not saying that I don't mind feedback or opinions, because I don't, but only when it is appropriate. Do you guys get my point!?

As for my vice, because it is definitely not the ice cream, I have a hard time with missing the Susih. So I a far from being a slob that can only think of junk food.

                    Now to the individual replies.

Pork rinds are a great low carb snack, melt some cheese over them with a little sour cream and you have pork rind nachos.

If you have fred meyers or krogers down there, they typically have Atkins products. I've also seen them at safeway, and albertsons, and wal-mart. I know you have a wal mart there, they're in the vitamins and diet shakes section.

I won't eat them, but you're welcome to do whatever. If it stalls your loss, you will know why.

None that I am aware of, why, you looking to compete?

As for my squats and DL's, I watched my weigh there, I kept it low; I seen waaaay to many knees and backs blown out and talked to toooo many old school lifter that were in pain in their older years, but I guess that was all wasted time since I screwed my back up anyways, lol...efff...

As for my squats 585 with belt, knee sleeves and wraps; my DL I kept in the low 500's. I just increased rep when I wanted more. Luckily I can say that my knees are still good, I am glad I did what I did and kept it safe.

EDIT: Do'h sorry, I hit the wrong key on my keyboard I was squatting 575, my bad.

The most painful squat I did was in a squat suit. Not because of the weight but those things suck ***.

I was ribbin' you in a friendly manner about the leg press thing. When I competed in high school we used to rail on people who would brag about their leg press. I love squats and deads, but I'll never be in the extremely high weight category.

                              SM

in my opinion Georgiana's advice was fine it may have sounded a little harsh from your end but really if she thought that her post would not help you and just bug you then im sure she would not have even posted it she was trying to help

and from your post it sounded like you wanted to buy low carb junk food from the store and you need to realize the world is evil so just about every food you buy at the store that is not natural like vegetables , meat , cheese etc , will have some kind of posion added to it

i see the low carb pre made junk food and it all has SOY in them and look what soy does to your body

                              Welcome to Soy Online Service

theres also many other posions and crap in store bought unatural foods that is why its good to make the treats and low carb snacks yourself because then you dont have to deal with all them other posions added to them at store bought ones

so if you make the low carb snacks and treats yourself it wont be junk food

also back when the stores did sell low carb things i bought these thin 10 net carb whole wheat wraps and they 100% stalled my weight loss later i found out it was cause they were whole wheat rung 9 food and it spikes your blood sugar which is much worse than other carbs from say vegetables

anyways i have learned many many things because of people preaching the info they deem necessary it is often a good idea to preach info that is nescessary you can learn a great deal of things then

                              for example

guy : ya this place sells low carb icecream still

you : thx ( buys a few each year )

guy : years later : your still eating that low carb icecream i told you about? do you know what it does?

you: years later : wtf? if you knew then why didnt you tell me it had soy and aspartame in it that causes brain cancer!!?

Re: I can hardly find any Low Carb anything in Jacksonville Fl

In NM we can get the ice cream and a handful of other low-carb snacks here but they're all full of crap so I usually don't eat them.. but really only because they give me MaJOR tummy aches and bloating...
I can honeslty say though that the Bryers Low-Carb ice cream is SO YUMMY!
the low-carb bars are too.. lol
BUT - not good for you, so stay away. :P

I usually make my own stuff, usually whipped cream with berries. I always add a bit of cream cheese to my whipped cream w/ vanilla syrup. mmm.
You can also make things like cream brule, it kills the craving too.
Or blend some strawberries with cream cheese, heavy cream and splenda then freeze it. that's good too & easy.
