    Welcome!

    >> What advice can you give me to get started tommorrow morning,>>

Read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

Realize that doing Atkins is "for life" ... it's not a quick fix diet.

    Drink all your WATER.

    Eat all your Induction vegetables.

    PLAN, PLAN, PLAN.

Get rid of the "junk" in your house ... make it "fail safe".

    Ask questions.

        My advice? Listen to Atkinsgirl08.

Also, use Fitday to track what you eat - it makes it a lot easier!

Remember this - you can do this, it's a permanent change, and it's a good permanent change - it's not just about your weight, although that's your motivation here - it's about getting healthy!

          Yay!! How exciting!
I started on Dec 8th a few years ago.. It was hard during the holdiays but I made it - you can too!
Everyone has given great advise already.. I'd just say stick to it!
If you're anything like me, you'll be going crazy with cravings after a few days!
The book has all of the answers!! It really does! Take the vitamins Dr. A suggests, eat something with protien and fat and the craving will go away. If you want to eat - eat! Just make sure it's induction friendly! Try new recipes and don't be afraid to try new things.
That was the hardest part for me, beating those dang cravings!
I think a lot of people make the mistake on induction of trying to count calories and go low fat - that is the opposite of what you want to do (initially).
Water is SOOO important. When I was really losing I swear the days I got all my water in I would lose a lb the next morning! lol
Another thing - you gotta work out. Get your butt up and move it girl!

          Have you done Atkins before?

You have done a great job losing all of that weight, your pic really shows wonderful progress. Do you have any tips? My weigh loss is very slow even though I follow exactly. Maybe my age and post-menopause contribute to that. Have you been on the WOE continuously? Do you still lose much while on the rungs.

                  Re: Any advice???

I started before the holidays too and I thought if I can eat Atkins through it I can stay with this for a long time and that is what happened. I did do some luxery things though. I had some prosciutto, nice cheeses - really nice ones, smoked salmon. Very yummy things and for a Christmas treat I made an induction legal cheese cake. With all that I did fine. You will too. Keep focus on your goal and don't let any evil carbs trick you.

                    Thank you!
I have gained a little the last few months, I have not gone off plan at all until this Fall. I went low-fat/low-cal for about a month, gained about 10 lbs or so and felt HORRIBLE the entire time.
I am just an Atkins girl through and through.
I think that hormones (like post-menapause) and (somewhat) age have a huge effect on the speed you lose... as does stress!!
My only real tip/advise it to follow the plan. I went through hurdles trying to figure out why I wasn't losing or why I was stalled or even gained - when it's always obvious answers (like not exercising, or eating too many nuts or too much cheese or whipped cream). Be honest with yourself and just keep going.
In the begenning I was one of those who didn't like what the mods had to say and wanted them to tell me I could eat this or that - they never did and after trial and error I figured out for myself why and that they were right all along.
People tell me ALL THE TIME 'oh come on, just one bite won't hurt'... but the truth is it will. Because one bit of this leads to two bites of that...lol (not to mention possibly spiking cravings - which for me are the devil! lol). Having a bit of this or that and not having a bit of this or that makes all the difference in seeing resutls. Maybe not the 'bite' but the over all attitude and deligence will make the difference.
I and many others preach this over and over but you have to eat your right foods, drink lots of water and you've got to move. Follow the book is my best advise and it really will happen!!
I am human and lose motivation, etc, but one thing I am just learning is to give myself time. I lost most of my wieght about the first 3 months or so on Atkins but I never lost my fat goggles. Just give your body time to do its thing and adjust... everybody is different so don't compare yourself to others! (as I do! lol).
But really as long as you stick to plan you can't really mess up that bad.

Oh and yes I did lose on the rungs! I stalled forEVER and it was because I stayed on induction WAY too long!! Don't be afraid to move on!

                      Re: Any advice???

My heart goes out to you... there are so many folks here who have been right where you are. I'll share a few things that helped me.

First, I accepted that I never want to return to a lifestyle of overeating mass quantities of empty calories. Every time I stopped doing Atkins, however, that's exactly what I did. I would regain all the weight I lost and gain much more. This time around I know I'm not here to diet and lose weight. I'm here to make permanent lifestyle changes.

Second, I follow the book and the advice of the experts here on ADBB. Their success is what I want, so I need to do what they do. When they give advice sometimes I don't want to hear the truth. It's not personal... they're telling me what I need to hear to help me achieve my goals.

Next, some here keep a journal chat, some keep a blog. I have a blog I post to regularly. I cannot stay honest about my food without keeping a regular journal. Also, it's awesome to go back and see how far I've come aside from what the scale or tape measure says.

Other than that it's just get down and do it. Plan meals, plan shopping trips. Keep Atkins friendly snacks in your purse or work area just in case, especially with the holidays on. Drink water, water, water. If you have headaches, it may be from caffeine withdrawal (Mountain Dew). Ibuprofen can help. Get the book and study it. Keep a list of acceptable foods in your wallet and open your mind to new foods and experiences. Exercise, but don't overdo it. I could go on but I've taken a lot of space here.

Your post touched my heart. Keep posting to the boards and let us know how you're doing.

Good for you for strating BEFORE the holidays!!! This way you won't gain weight during the holidays and with due diligence you'll probably lose a few pounds by the time the holidays actually arrive!!! Of course you'd prefer to be start the new year as a SLIMMER you instead of having to get rid of the holiday weight AND the rest of the weight. IMO you are jumpstarting the process and that's terrific!

Try for a clean induction, this will get your body ready to lose weight more easily, drink water, exercise well you've heard this all before, but this is truly the greatest gift to give to yourself and your family.

If you're celebrating at someone else's home, offer to bring something - Atkins friendly- so that u will have something to eat. Don't give in to the just one taste thing, be as gracious as you can about it and PERSEVERE ... your health and well being are the priority!

Good Luck and don't forget to ENJOY the holidays!!!

How are things going? What did you have for your first Atkins meals?
