  • The Heartbreak of Being Almost At Goal ~ Getting Sick & Gaining 15 to 20 lbs Back !!!

I was doing sooooo well with my "Weight Loss" looking forward to my Atkins 1yr mark on Jan 1st 2010 !!!

Going from a size 18/20 to 8/10 given my limited ability to exercise due to having Nerve Dammage & Lupus/Fibro from a Motorcycle Accident in Aug 04'.

My Primary Care Dr & I have been going back/forth on what my "Goal Weight" should be for some time now & I moved into "Pre~Maint" in August. She wants to keep it a bit higher than I due, due to my Immune System & a higher weight helping to keep it stronger !!!

At my Oct Monthly Check~Up She had me try a (new to me med) "Neurontin" due to alot of discomfort I was having. Well by my next month's Appt I had gained 9 very unwanted pound's !!!

This medication is very much like "Lyrica" which I had to stop taking in 2008 for the very same reason/side effect ~ weight gain !!!

Then I came down with my 3rd Upper/Lower Resp Infection this Fall (Oct, Nov & now Dec) my Immune System is Shot so to speak !!!

I saw my Dr on Dec 1st one round of meds, again on the 7th another round of meds & on the 11th I was placed in the Hospt till last PM on a very High Dose of Steroids & IV Antibiotics gave me 6 more very unwanted pounds .

I have now gained a Grand Total of 15 very unwanted pounds, however Iam NOT finished with my round of Steroids & Oral Antibiotics YET !!!

Iam sure that there is STILL more "Weight Gain" to come before Iam done !!!

Now that Iam home for the Hosp I will be jumping right back on my "Daily Eating Plan" even thought it may seem like I fighting a "loosing battle" due to the Meds & due my best to stay strong !!!

Iam sooooo very glad that I have an AWESOME Place like the Forum to come to for Support , Friendship & Guideance to help see me through a time that there are days I feel like giving~up all together !!!

Thanks for letting me Vent & Share Once Again !!!

You did it before, you can do it again!
Take your time and recover, don't sweat it too bad.. Once you're healthy then just get back on it!

I'm kind of in the same boat, but I've held on to my 'extra' for about year!! Grrr!
I was pretty much where I wanted to be weight wise then I had surgery and a few months after that few other medical things and couldn't workout for months... then just got off my exercise groove and even though I stayed low-carb I began to gain weight! After I was able to workout I had major family drama and stress just made it that much worse..
So I am in the same boat as you are girl.
I'm all better and the 'crazy' stress is gone and now I'm determined to lose all that I regained plus the last 15 I had to lose.
    We can do it!!!!
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

    Officially Re-Focusing on 12-28-09.

    Was, Am, Will be: 280/222/175ish.
Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

    so:
    Restart Progress:
    12/28/09 ~ 235.1
    01/04/10 ~ 229.0
    01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
(Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)
    01/18/10 ~ 227.4
    01/5/10 ~ 226.8
    02/01/10 ~ 222.6

Be kind to your body, take your meds and get better. Then worry about the pounds. I take Geodon and I'm lucky so far as I don't think its hurting me too bad. My daughter it adds pounds to. You may have to watch portions more with certain meds. I know mine are stupidly small now. Take care of yourself though. Get stronger and then you can get the pounds back down. I've gone up and down. I've taken questionable cough syrup just this week. The one thing I've learned is I've got time. There will be good days when you are stronger and you can work harder at it. Just understand its going to be an on going battle, not something that's gonna have balloons and a finish-line. Might as well pull up a chair and get comfortable here!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

        1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
        2nd mini goal: 140!
        3rd mini goal:135!
        4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Your strength and determination make you such an inspiration to me. In spite of the setbacks you're not letting yourself give up, and that's where the rubber meets the road, sis!

Hang in there. We wish you well and send warm thoughts and prayers your way. What a trooper!!!
