Taking a diuretic?

I usually take a diuretic during my TOM, is this still safe to do while on atkins. My water weight gain usually exceeds 4 lbs and is so uncomfortable, but I know the diet itself has a diuretic effect. Please advise wise friends

Taking diuretics was strongly discouraged by Dr. Atkins. I wouldn't take one unless my doctor insisted that I must.

Personally I would be afraid my body would become dependent on the medicine in order to do what it does naturally once my TOM is over. More water and less sodium is my natural diuretic.
