  • Macademia Nuts

Has anyone else heard that having a small serving of macademia nuts after indulging to much helps get the body back on track?

My critical carb level is really low if I stray into anything starchy. If i stick to dairy or leafy veg carbs I can tolerate quite a lot and still maintain or loose a bit real slow. But if I have the slightest bit of starch, particularily gluten I bloat, have nightmares, I'm insatiably thirsty and quite uncomfortable. Every once in awhile I will have something off plan. For instance I had a piece of cake at my husbands birthday celebration. *maybe* 1/3 cup and an equal amount of ice cream (which I only ate half b/c it was too sweet)

My SIL said that eating some macademia nuts helps the body move into ketosis again and helps "detox" Anyone else read this.

Trust me this is no habbit or "remedy" in my eyes. However there are special occasions where I would like a small modest taste of something. I need to jsut be good about bringing an alternative b/c almost 100% of the time I am dissapointed and then in pain for three days......... I guess it's part of learning limitations and boundaries in life.....

Could this severe of a reaction indicate that I am diabetic? I'm going for a physical in Feb. but I've been wondering. I actually tested borderline hypoglecemic during my twin pregnancy - but haven't had anything checked since then...and that was pre-atkins.

    I'm rambling.....thanks for your thoughts

I have never heard of that theory - however, Dr Atkins did like macadamias as a high fat food choice, so it might help you combat your cravings if you were at the OWL level/rung where they were a 'legal' choice for you.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

The main reason I think most people need not to stay on induction too long.

At about 35 pounds from goal you really need to move to OWL (where even whole grains can be a 'legal' choice in small quantities) rather than stay on induction as displayed in your profile

If you have a low CCLL you could still test your body's response to the higher rung foods by using the 'net' approach instead of the 'ladder' one. This means swapping your 5 net carb additions rather than adding them.

It doesn't. As long as you eat low carb, high fat, the body should go back in ketosis at the same "speed", regardless of whether you eat macadamia nuts or a salad with olive oil.

Maybe you have a gluten intolerance/allergy?

Eating low carb for some time and then having a meal high in sugars will make some people appear as having impaired glucose tolerance, even if they do not have diabetes.

          Re: Macademia Nuts

After reading your post, I noted your stats, Erika... wow you've lost over a hundred lbs??? First, I just want to say what an inspiration you are to me and how much hope you give me.

As to the occasional treats, I fully understand. I'm learning to join dinner parties and such with foods friendly to this WOE. If it's a celebration including ice cream and cake and I know about it in advance, I can prepare some Atkins ice cream ahead of time as well as other party-style snacks and foods. The thing I love about this WOE is that I'm losing weight without fighting cravings and without feeling deprived.

Thing is, I used to do the "occasional" treat thing so I'd fit in, wouldn't look so weird. Of course I never worried about not fitting in because I was the only one having a third piece of cake or because I was the only one permanently stationed at the chips and dips or because I was the only one still hungry after the party was over. LOL

But I digress... no, the macadamias won't do much to help your body forget the ice cream and cake. Just get back on track and you'll be fine. Congrats on your weight loss. It's a precious gift.

            Re: Macademia Nuts

            thanks everyone.

Giorgiana - that was exactly the kind of thing i was looking for info on thanks!

I haven't been on induction the whole time. I've beening owling for a year and a half and I'm functioning in maintance -my ticker just has a weight history - I'm only 2.5 lbs (147.5) from my goal and the number 145 was just a number, My goal was to be under 150 - So I'm there (and I've been there for a year!)

I can make a conscious choice now to have 1 or 2 bites of something special and walk away from it. I used to get hunkered down on the buffet too - but now I can "taste" and not even blink - but blood sugar wise I can REALLY feel it. But i can hop right back into mode and stay on paln. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case if i was REALY "splurging" and eating "carb city" for a whole day or multiple days - but I'm beyond feeling like that anymore.

            Thank all!

i have ciliac desease. your syptoms sound like mine. have it checked out. every time you eat gluten ou are damaging our small intestine. in time the damage can become permanant.
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up.

I was going to look into that. My MIL has celiac's and my husband test on the blood test 1 number into "normal" ugh...of course he won't go GF until he has symptoms or a better Dx.
