  • A few random questions if anyone has 5 mins

    Hiya
Sorry to be a pain but, have a few questions that are confusing me so, Help please
First is re vitamin supplements. Is it vitally important that they dont contain iron. All the decent ones I can find (Im in The UK) contain Iron. Does this matter or could anyone recommend any that dont contain Iron else, I will have to buy lots of seperate ones & I really cant afford this.
Second question......food packaging.....As an example (& my dinner tonight)....Brussel sprouts state 7.6 net carbs per 6 sprouts in the book but, on the packet, if you work out the carbs minus fibre, it comes out as NO carbs.....which do I go by, the book or the packaging.
Last question now, Tomatoes......I know Ive read somewhere that you should try to eat 1 Tomato a day (not sure if it was in the Atkins book or one of the other high protein diet books I read though). Is this correct & also, how do we feel about Sun dried Toms. I love them & normally make my own but, have run out now....I know mine are OK but, what about the ones in the Deli (they dont supply any packaging information)
Thanks ever so much for anyone that can help with any of these questions
    Best wishes
    Julie
[SIGPIC]Age 39, Height 5'3", Start/current weight 170 lbs, Goal weight 126 lbs (this is my old weight when I was on Atkins before) Starting 1/1/10, wish me luck

Please excuse the Halloween background in the piccie.....my daughter did it for me & I cant get it back to normal now!!!

Vitamins without iron ... look for a senior formula.

Net carbs on packages ... in the UK, fibre is not considered to be a carbohydrate, so you don't subtract. If you're using the nutritional information on the package, the carb count is "net".

    >>how do we feel about Sun dried Toms.>>

They're fine ... as long as there is no added sugar (there shouldn't be). Even the ones packed in oil are fine.
    >>I know Ive read somewhere that you should try to eat 1 Tomato a day (not sure if it was in the Atkins book>>

That's not in the Atkins book. Tomatoes are an Induction vegetable, but you're not required to have one.

If you want to look up the nutritional information for the ones in the deli, you can use a source like www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

    Hope that helps!

Extra Iron can cause some people to get constipated. If your vitamins contain Iron, make sure you get lots of fibre (choose fibre-rich veggies, and take psyllium (or other)) supplements, and DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!.

Never heard of a tomato a day - that isn't Atkins.

As long as the sun-dried tomatoes don't contain ingredients that aren't on the list of foods acceptable for induction. I buy canned/jarred ones, so they have a label. I avoid unlabelled foods.

I get multivitamins without iron from superdrug - their own brand - usually when they are having a BOGOF offer!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

whaaaaaaaaat????? this means that all this time i calculated EVERYTHING wroooooong???????

so the cracker i had today, with 7g carb and 2.5g of fibre, didn't have 4.5 net carb, but 7???? glad didn't exaggerate....

or that system works only for the uk only?!?

p.s even if i counted wrong, i still managed to lose a lot of weight...

Knäckebrot is not appropriate for Induction.

It's important to eat the right foods, not only to be below 20 net carbs.

Over half of your net carbs should come from vegetables.

Re: A few random questions if anyone has 5 mins

The clue I look for if I am not certain whether the product has a US-style or EU/UK style label is to see where on the label the fibre is listed.
In US fiber is listed under the carbohydrates but in EU/UK and many other countries fibre is listed lower down (in UK after the fat numbers) which shows it is nothing to do with the carbohydrates.

Why go back to Induction? Why not just continue where you were?
